The Mathematics Department at Illinois State University is seeking applications for one tenure-track position in Differential Equations or Mathematical Modeling to begin August 16, 2024. This position will work closely with faculty in Mathematics to support the Department’s expected service role to the new College of Engineering at Illinois State University. Candidates with outstanding research potential in any area of differential equations and mathematical modeling are encouraged to apply.

Duties include teaching courses for major and general departmental programs (typically two courses per semester), research, and service. Refereed research publications, quality teaching, and professional involvement and service are required for promotion and tenure. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a wide range of courses and show a strong commitment to quality teaching. In addition, they will be regularly engaged in the Engineering Calculus curriculum, through teaching and ongoing curricular development.

The Mathematics Department is in the College of Arts and Sciences and has over 30 tenure-track lines. It offers Bachelor’s and Master's degrees in mathematics and a Ph.D. degree in mathematics education. Within the bachelor's program (about 300 majors), there are sequences in actuarial science, data science and computational mathematics, mathematics, mathematics education, statistics, and a 5-year accelerated BS/MS program in mathematics. The Master’s program serves approximately 60 students and offers specializations in actuarial science, biomathematics, mathematics education, pure and computational mathematics, and statistics. The department also provides numerous service and general education mathematics courses.
