Job Summary

The Wonsook Kim School of Art at Illinois State University is seeking a full-time tenure-track assistant/associate professor specializing in a digital illustration with a start date of August 16, 2024. The School is seeking an individual who wants to help create a new digital illustration program within the drawing sequence. Candidates should have a well-developed practice in digital illustration and the capacity to start and develop an academic sequence for digital illustration within a drawing sequence.

Relevant teaching experience and the capacity for innovative curricular creation and development is important. An ability to work well with colleagues and students in various subject areas that the digital illustration courses serve – such as drawing, graphic design, and painting – is also critical.

The successful candidate will focus their teaching on sections of digital illustration courses. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and/or service. The locus of annual evaluation, tenure, and promotion in rank will be in Wonsook Kim School of Art. The salary for this nine-month position is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The digital illustration courses, along with courses in painting, drawing, photography, video, and printmaking, fits within the 2D area within studio art. Graphic design, art history, visual culture, and art teacher education are the other four areas within the Wonsook Kim School of Art. The school offers BA, BS, BFA, MA, and MFA degrees. Faculty enjoy small class sizes and close engagements with students. Digital illustration courses are exciting exploratory experiences for students in the Wonsook Kim School of Art and will be a bridge for those students who have interest in drawing as well as graphic design. These courses will introduce a variety of design tactics, work habits, and hands-on studio-based skills. Required Qualifications

1. Appropriate terminal degree or ABD in the candidate's field of study
2. Strong background in illustration, digital creativity, and production
3. Evidence of innovative professional activity and creative research
4. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position
