Missoula College at the University of Montana is seeking applicants to join our growing program within the Department of Industrial Technology. Missoula College offers degrees, certificates and workforce training across disciplines primarily within the Residential Construction Technology Sector, Including:

  • Two Year Associates of Applied Science in Sustainable Construction Technology
  • One Year Certificate of Applied Science in Carpentry
  • One Year Certificate of Applied Science in Building Information Modeling/CADD
  • One Year Certificate of Applied Science in Residential Construction Supervision
  • Certificate of Technical Skills in Green Building 

Qualified individuals are invited to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position that will join our team to provide high quality education, training, and mentorship to the next generation of Construction Industry leaders. 


Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Assume primary responsibility for and exercise oversight on all courses assigned in the areas of residential construction management, including review, development and/or enhancement of curriculum, delivery, and learning exercises
  • Participate in the overall strategic development and implementation of the mission, goals and objectives of the Department, as well as Program Pathways for related degrees, certificates and workforce training with a focus on residential construction management as well as building information modeling and computer aided drafting and design (BIM/CADD)
  • Participate in on-going program assessment and work within team to develop plans to improve program coursework, delivery and student success
  • Teach program courses both face to face and online
  • Assume primary responsibility to perform program assessment and work with existing adjunct faculty to develop plans to improve program outcomes, coursework and delivery for the BIM/CADD certificate
  • Maintain current knowledge of the industry and related professions as well as current educational methodologies
  • Ensure that units of instruction follow syllabi which clearly state measurable objectives, student activities, learning resources, time allotment, grading criteria and student evaluation methods
  • Earn and maintain knowledge, credentials, and experience in multiple related industry programs
  • Have the ability to complete training and achieve relevant Industry Recognized Credentials as provided by the Department (OSHA, NAHB, LEED, PMI, etc.).
  • Work to identify, recruit and retain qualified faculty for all discipline specific courses and workforce training
  • Organize and assign teaching workload for various classes and lab oversight, in consultation with the Department Chair
  • Engage in learning, training, or professional development opportunities on emerging industry trends, technology, teaching pedagogy, curriculum development in areas related to program goals and teaching assignments
  • Serve in advisory role for related student organizations and groups, student competitions, or other projects related to the program and curriculum
  • Work to recruit and regularly engage Industry advisory board members to provide program updates, curriculum improvement assistance and facilitate greater Industry participation
  • As part of tenure track requirements, participate in professional development, service to the University and community and work towards continued professional improvement

Tenure Track Faculty:  Assistant Professor, Construction Technology and Building Information Modeling, Missoula College
Position Type: Academic (10-month)
Schedule:
Full time academic year position beginning fall semester 2024
Entry Rate: for entry level; range depending on experience for lateral hires

Primary Duties: Primary duties include teaching, scholarship, and service.
Teaching responsibilities may include a combination of required, elective, and clinical courses.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree plus minimum of six years related industry experience, or demonstrable equivalent progressive career experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated successful industry experience relevant to Construction, Construction Management, or Construction Administration
  • Knowledge/Expertise in at least one area of Residential Construction Management, including but not limited to; Estimating, Scheduling, Project Management, Business Management, Construction Technique, BIM/CADD, or Building Science      .
  • Ability to earn and maintain knowledge, credentials, and experience in multiple related industry programing, such as Revit, AutoCad, Civil3D, ProCore, Bluebeam, or other current and emerging Industry tools and programs
  • Have the ability to complete training and achieve relevant Industry Recognized Credentials as provided by the department
  • Proficiency or ability to learn current, relevant Industry software (ie. ProCore, Buildertrend, or other)
  • Competency using Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Expected to learn and utilize the University of Montana learning management system for classes as well as grading and attendance
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, alumni, employers, faculty and staff
  • The ability to work and solve problems collaboratively and maintain a sense of cordiality in the workplace
  • Knowledge of the relevant Industry Certifications and Associations within the construction Industry (NAHB, ACG, OSHA, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or expected completion within tenure probationary period
  • Knowledge of Two-Year Education and its mission and goals
  • Previous teaching experience within a secondary, post-secondary, or workforce training institution
  • Experience in Construction Administration, Project Management, within the Residential Construction Sector
  • Experience in residential construction supervision, management, drafting, design, or related business administration experience
  • Current certifications or ability to obtain credentials through relevant recognized industry standards
  • Prior experience developing, modifying, and implementing curriculum, or other workforce training
