The School of Natural Resources at Lake Superior State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position with expertise in conservation biology. Expertise in wildlife conservation preferred. Responsibilities include teaching core courses in the Conservation Biology, Natural Resource Technology, Fisheries and Wildlife Management, and Geospatial Technology/Geographic Information Science degree programs. Faculty in the School of Natural Resources also contribute to LSSU’s undergraduate programs through academic and career advising, mentoring students engaged in undergraduate research, advising student clubs, and working collaboratively with stakeholders and external partners to provide unique student opportunities.
We seek colleagues whose classroom teaching and scholarly activities employ field- and lab-based methodologies. Many areas of research expertise are appropriate, particularly conservation, management, and restoration of wildlife populations and habitats.

Responsibilities:
• Teaching-12 contract hours each semester that may include courses such as Fundamentals of Natural Resources, Quantitative Biology, Restoration Ecology, Mammalogy, Human Environment, Ecological Data Analysis, and/or Intro to Geographic Information Science. Although this is a 9-month position, additional teaching and mentoring opportunities may be available over the summer depending on school, college, or university needs and the interest of the successful candidate.
• Scholarly Activity- We seek a colleague who will contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and sense of community among our students, college, and university, and build external funding and partnerships with external stakeholders (e.g., US Forest Service, Michigan Department of Natural Resources).
• Mentoring- Advising undergraduates and mentoring undergraduate research projects.
• Service- Active participation in the school, university, and community.

LSSU is a small public university located in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The campus sits on the St. Marys River, the sole outflow of Lake Superior, and provides numerous educational and professional opportunities in forest conservation and natural resources management, being surrounded by forests, grasslands, rivers, and lakes. LSSU offers state-of-the-art facilities for natural resources and conservation research including: ESRI site license, UAVs, instrumentation for soil chemistry & water quality analysis, equipment and resources for field sampling/data collection, wildlife cameras and traps, snowshoes, boats, and the Center for Freshwater Research and Education (http://www.lssu.edu.cfre/ ), a new state-of-the-art building. Additionally, LSSU is surrounded by three Great Lakes and many state, provincial, and national forests and parks that provide tremendous recreational opportunities and a high quality of life.

Success of students within the School of Natural Resources stems from extensive interaction with faculty during hands-on labs, student research, and active student organizations.  All students within the school are required to complete senior thesis research and they are encouraged to present their research at regional and national scientific conferences. Faculty also work closely in advising student clubs, including the Society for Conservation Biology and the nationally recognized Fisheries and Wildlife Club (student sub-unit of the American Fisheries Society). The successful candidate will be expected to mentor students engaged in undergraduate research, and contribute to university service, including advising student organizations.
