Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, in conjunction with ECU Health Medical Center, provides a broad range of clinical services in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology for hospital and clinic patients. The Department houses residency, cytopathology, forensic pathology, and surgical pathology fellowship programs. The mission of the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is to improve the health and well-being of the citizens of eastern North Carolina and beyond by delivering high quality pathology services, by providing exemplary education for medical students, residents, and other health care professionals, and by creating new knowledge through research. As the field of Pathology continues to evolve, the Department will continue to uphold its commitment to provide the best diagnosis and treatment monitoring services to the citizens of eastern North Carolina.
Job Duties
The candidate will be expected to participate in clinical service and call responsibilities that include hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology and transfusion medicine. Subspecialty expertise in multiple areas of clinical pathology is desired.
Participation in medical student/resident education and clinical research is expected.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457).  This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability.
Minimum Education/Experience
Candidates must have a MD, DO, or MBBS from an accredited school. HemePath fellowship training is required. Must be board certified or board eligible in clinical pathology or combined anatomic pathology and clinical pathology and HemePath. The candidate must be eligible to obtain an active North Carolina medical license.
