The Opportunity

The Chemistry Department at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-earning assistant professor anticipated to begin August 2024.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in physical chemistry, experimental or theoretical physical chemistry, with focus on molecular electronics and quantum molecular materials. The position would be suitable for a chemist with interest in either instrumental, theoretical, or computational studies of molecular electronic systems, including using artificial intelligence and machine learning methods.

The successful candidate will be capable of teaching and training students in chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate levels and developing a vigorous, externally funded, internationally recognized research program in the field.  Of particular interest are candidates who could collaborate and leverage the department’s outstanding strengths in materials science and nanotechnology, photonics, analytical chemistry etc. For more information on the department’s disciplines: https://sciences.ucf.edu/chemistry/research/research-areas/

The Chemistry Department has productive academic programs including the Chemistry Ph.D., Chemistry M.S., Forensic Science M.S., and ACS -approved B.S. programs in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Chemistry, and Forensic Biochemistry.

Minimum Qualifications:

A doctorate in Chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution by time of hire is required. Candidate must also have a minimum of two-years of postdoctoral experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Extensive experience in spectroscopy and/or computational studies and molecular modelling using machine learning and artificial intelligence demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications and presentations/distinctions at national and international levels. The publications and conference contributions will comprise an interdisciplinary portfolio. 

Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduates and graduate students in chemistry, especially physical chemistry, with content that reflects expertise in emerging frontiers in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
