The University of Houston Moores School of Music seeks an Associate Director of Choral Studies at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, 9-month position that begins Fall of 2024.
The position will involve conducting choirs at the Moores School of Music, teaching undergraduate conducting and choral rehearsal techniques courses, other courses in the music education curriculum, private applied conducting lessons at the graduate level, and/or other music classes based on the candidate’s expertise and experience and the needs of the School of Music. The Associate Director of Choral Studies essential responsibilities will include collaboration with the Director of Choral Studies in all aspects of the recruitment of new students and current students pursuing a variety of degrees from across the University of Houston campus. Participation, coordination, and leadership will be assumed in planning and executing the Moores School’s Choral Area’s activities, rehearsals, concerts, workshops, and other initiatives. Further responsibilities encompass providing service to the university community and the profession.

Qualifications

: 

The successful candidate will have a proven record of conducting excellence, outstanding musicianship, effective choral conducting experience at the university level or commensurate professional experience, and demonstrated success with recruiting, retaining, and mentoring undergraduate singers from diverse backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in music education as well as those who have a strong commitment to all aspects of inclusivity in our learning-centered community. A DMA or PhD degree is required; (ABD considered, but completion of the doctoral degree is required by the start of Fall 2024 semester)
