The University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) invites applications for a Presidential Frontier Faculty (PFF) tenure-track assistant or associate professor position to begin academic year 2024-25. The PFF program is a university wide integrated interdisciplinary hiring campaign that is overseen by central university leadership and encompasses hiring a large cohort of convergence research faculty to work on health, energy, sustainability and security. The PFF program envisions a candidate with specific expertise in legal areas related to clean energy and carbon capture and management. This expertise is encompassed within a doctrinal and research emphasis for this position focused on environmental/energy law and climate change/management law.
Applicants for the position must hold a J.D. degree (or the equivalent) and should demonstrate the potential for success as scholars, teachers, and future members of the UH and the Law Center’s broader community.  Appointment at the rank of associate with tenure may be possible based on the experience, credentials, and expertise of the applicant.
The successful candidate will teach the Law Center’s baseline course in environmental law, and likely other courses related to the discipline. Willingness to teach elsewhere in the Law Center curriculum, including 1L courses or courses covered on the bar exam, is also a positive factor. The candidate’s tenure pathway is at the Law Center. The successful candidate will also be affiliated with the Law Center’s Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Center.
Other criteria relevant to this hire include: grant acquisition experience; work on clean energy, climate change or carbon management in a legal, technological, or policy capacity; and STEM background(s) in areas related to the sciences underlying climate and energy. The position will teach three courses each academic year during the pre-tenure period. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty at other UH colleges who specialize in clean energy and carbon management.
