The McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center is situated on the campus of William & Mary. This award-winning facility boasts six indoor, climate-controlled courts and experienced USPTA/PTR instructors who are ready to help take your game to the next level. Programs are offered from junior tennis to adult leagues and private lessons.
The McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center is a division of The Office of Auxiliary Services who provides a variety of products and services that support and enhance campus life for students, faculty and staff, alumni, and guests of the university. Position Summary
The Assistant Manager will manage all aspects of the Front Desk management and operation as well as assist on the court during the clinics. The position ensures all Front Desk staff are properly trained and the front desk functions at an optimal level for generating revenue. The Assistant Manager reports to the Associate Director of McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. Specific areas of responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Front Desk/Office:
  • Hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and approving timesheets for the Front Desk staff
  • Maintain and update the Front Desk training manual
  • Greet members and guests as they enter the facility
  • Answer phone calls
  • Utilizes reservation software to manage court reservations and lessons
  • Take payments through point of sale (POS)
  • Social Media Coordinator
  • Reconcile daily deposits and record on business reports
  • Assist with merchandise receiving and inventory control
  • Respond to and manage the generic McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center email in a timely fashion

Events:
  • Acting Tournament Director for all United States Tennis Association (USTA) events, about 20 – 25 events per year
  • Assist with all special events, leagues, and social events

Racket Stringing:
  • String rackets as needed – approximately 400 per year
  • Manage string inventory

Coaching:
  • Assist in junior clinics as needed
Conditions of Employment
  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may require overtime including scheduled and unscheduled, nights and weekends, and or holidays.
  • This is a restricted position subject to the availability of funding.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of the game of tennis with basic proficiency in teaching tennis to junior and adults
  • Knowledge of basic teaching principles
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to provide exceptional service while marketing tennis programs as appropriate
  • Proficiency in a variety of software and web-based applications. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Familiarity with using social media.
  • Familiarity with various point of sale (POS) systems.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to use discretion and tact and exercise sound judgment in performing all responsibilities.
  • Experience with the game of tennis
  • Experience working with junior and adult players
  • Previous Tournament Desk experience
  • Experience in providing customer service to the public in a service-orientated industry
  • Prior work experience in an office setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use of reservation and POS systems
  • Ability to schedule staff
  • Experience teaching junior and adults
  • Prior office management experience

Advertised Pay Range Up to $50,000, commensurate with experience
