The Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) is seeking to recruit a new Assistant Director of Student Services (Student Services Advisor I). This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and growing academic department!

ISE is looking to expand its academic advising team. You will be working with undergraduate and graduate students to help them choose classes; navigate their curriculum, course, and degree requirements; and offer basic career help. The position is part of a team of three, reporting directly to the Director of Student Services with a dotted line to ISEs Department Business Manager.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintains academic unit student records and coordinates registration activities, grading, degree progress, enrollment and degree verification, and transcripts with the USC Office of Academic Records and Registrar. Assists with petition applications, resumes and letters of recommendation, and career services. Interfaces with faculty, administrators and students regarding grading policies, and academic progress.
  • Evaluates student problems (academic, administrative, or personal) and refers student to appropriate student services offices for additional counseling. Liaises with other offices including Viterbi Admissions and Student Engagement (VASE) and central USC offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.
  • Coordinates department public relations functions, as assigned, such as special events, conferences, seminars, etc. Arranges with vendors for sites, facilities, catering, guest accommodations, etc.
  • Participates in committees at the department, school, college, or university level which deal in student services issues. Provides administrative support for local committees and works on committee-assigned projects.
  • Stays current on policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to admissions, financial aid, registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, graduation requirements, petitions and other student services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree or equivalent work experience. Knowledge of USC programs and services. Experience with database systems. Strong organizational skills and ability to set priorities in order to complete assignments within deadlines. Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.

Additional Information:

This is a hybrid position at USCs University Park Campus located in Los Angeles, California. The Assistant Director, Student Services will be expected to work onsite for a minimum of 3 days per week. This position is not eligible for fully remote work.

The hourly rate range for this position is $28.43 - $31.92.
