Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision to designated SCC staff, and assumes responsibility for the clinical operations of SCC in the Director's absence. Represents the Director in both campus and community-wide meetings, programs, and events as needed.

  • Oversees SCC clinical activity, including the management of crises, clinic schedules, and case consultation.

  • Provide clinical supervision to graduate trainees.

  • Serve as a backup administrative contact for the Counseling Center’s after-hours crisis intervention and stabilization hotline.

  • Attends SCC staff meetings; cooperates with accountability and data collection systems; participates in university-wide, division of Student Affairs; develops and maintains a network of effective working relationships with faculty and staff from other offices and departments.

  • Assist the SCC Director with developing, writing, and implementing policies and operational procedures to streamline clinical services.

  • Facilitate weekly case consultation meetings.

  • Carry a partial clinical caseload. Provide crisis intervention services to drop-in clients, facilitate emergency hospitalizations, and provide consultation services to faculty, staff, and family members.

  • Provides outreach presentations for current and prospective students, faculty, and staff members, and assists with various tabling events throughout the year.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

This is a security-sensitive position. The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations. This individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with A&M System policy and is further required to complete FERPA and HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after the individual's employment, and on an as-needed basis thereafter. Must be flexible to work within every aspect and able to respond to any situation quickly and adequately.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Educational or Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or closely related field.

  • Current unrestricted license as a mental health professional in the State of Texas.

  • Six (6) years of relevant mental health experience

  • Maintains licensure through continuing professional education.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Two or more years experience providing mental health services at a College or University Counseling Center

  • Previous experience using the Titanium scheduling and record-keeping system

  • Two or more years of administrative and/or clinical supervisory experience in a mental health setting

  • Supervisory designation for licensure (i.e. LPC-S, LCSW-S, LMFT-S)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of the SCC staff team

  • Professional knowledge of adult and college student mental health issues

  • Professional knowledge of suicide/homicide assessment, crisis assessment, crisis management, and referral

  • Professional knowledge of clinical supervision

  • Ability to read and complete clinical notes and records using the computerized EHR record-keeping system

  • Ability to learn and use the computerized EHR scheduling system for scheduling appointments, meetings, and other activities.
