Job Summary
The office of Enrollment Services at Eastern Washington University invites applications for the Assistant Director of Running Start to support EWU’s Dual Enrollment programs. The Running Start program at EWU strives to support and encourage all dual credit students. The Assistant Director will:
  • Supervise the staff responsible for supporting the EWU Running Start program.
  • Be responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, and reporting on the initiatives intended to promote student success and retention in the Running Start program.

A successful candidate for the Running Start program should be experienced in using databases, systems and spreadsheets, building relationships, and working effectively in support of student recruitment and retention.

The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Dual and Concurrent Enrollment, Jennifer Nuñez, and will oversee and make appropriate decisions related to the Running Start unit.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field.
  • Three years’ experience leading academic support programs.
  • Two years’ experience supervising employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a positive manner to build partnerships and work effectively in support of student recruitment and retention.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer technologies such as databases, internet, spreadsheets, tracking systems, and word processing.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and time while under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, or diversity.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in related fields such as adult education, academic advising, higher education administration.
  • Fluency in a foreign language
  • Experience with Banner, Navigate and Argos.

    ADMINISTRATION AND OPERATIONS
  • Assist in the management of day to day operations of the Running Start program.
  • Propose improvements and changes to help meet unit goals and priorities.
  • Maintain documentation and tracking necessary to ensure compliance with institutional policy, state and federal law, and accreditation standards.
  • Execute and track implementation and success of strategies and tactics identified in unit and institutional plans.
  • Collect and verify EVF forms.
  • Complete monthly FTE and P223 fiscal processes, indicate billing and cohort codes in Banner for billing purposes. Correct billing information as needed. Collect and compile enrollment statistics and budgetary reports as requested by the Director, Student Financial Services, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and benchmark Running Start advisor assignments and associated new student appointments, addressing areas of concern with the advisors as they arise.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate professional staff defining performance expectations, ensuring accountability, and providing informal and formal feedback, coaching and mentoring.
  • Provide quarterly and yearly reports for WSAC grant program.
  • Ensure professional staff and student employees have necessary training and resources.
  • In collaboration with the Running Start Recruiter/Program Specialist, Marketing and Communication, and Enrollment Services develop a marketing and communication plan for Running Start.

    PROGRAMMATIC
  • Develop and maintain strong institutional relationships with student service units and departments with the aim of providing coordinated support to Running Start students through campus and community resources, events and other collaboration aiding in student persistence.
  • Direct the intake/transition activities and processes for Running Start students as they enter the Running Start program and as they leave the program as matriculated EWU students.
  • Develop and implement retention focused events for Running Start students, including but not limited to new student informational events, senior commitment day and send-offs, and CAAR transition event.
  • Participate in outreach events as requested or approved by the Director.
  • Advise students during high impact days, at special events, and when the advisors need additional assistance or when deemed necessary by the Director.
  • Participate in meetings and committee work related to Running Start and as approved by the Director.
  • Interpret and understand Ensure compliance with state and federal policies and regulations.
