Summary of Position: The Assistant Director provides operational support and is responsible for advising global and international students and scholars on cultural, immigration, and personal concerns; coordinates programs and workshops that support departmental goals with a positive impact on retention; assists in planning and implementing new international student orientation programs, develop connections with off-campus resources; collaborate with other University departments to prepare students as global citizens; assists in immigration, international enrollment efforts, globalizations efforts, and coordinating study abroad efforts and growth. Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.

The anticipated start date for this position is November of 2023. However, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed.


Position Type: Staff
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree; a master’s degree or its equivalent is preferred. The requirements listed represent the required knowledge, skill, and ability. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Equivalency for education is two years of full-time related work experience equals one year of education.
Required Work Experience: Three to five years of work experience with global and international students in higher education. Competency in CRM software, web-based record management systems, and MS Office software. Two years part-time is equivalent to one year full-time.
Required Licenses and Certifications: Must have a current, valid driver’s license, be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, and be able to obtain a U.S. passport.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Working experience in accreditation processes. Working knowledge of international communication, e-marketing, and strategies for international student recruitment. Experience planning and executing large events, including new student orientation and cultural events.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Serves as university Designated School Official (DSO) and may need to serve as Alternate Responsible Official (ARO) or PDSO/RO for SEVIS-related processes.
Assesses data supporting international enrollment goals and assists in determining effective recruitment action, including market analysis, communication tracks, marketing, and international partners.
International admissions best practices include credential evaluation, I20 issuance, agent relationships, and acting as a resource for internal and external stakeholders.
Assisting the Executive Director with planning and implementing international recruitment strategies in designated world regions to promote the growth and diversity of undergraduate and graduate student populations.
Supports recruitment activities and events, such as orientations and presentations, to stakeholders, as assigned.
Coordination and management of day-to-day activities for assigned programs.
In collaboration with the Executive Director, this position will assist with developing international alumni relations in the primary regions of focus.
Collaborates with relevant campus offices such as the Registrar’s Office, Accounting, Residence Life, Student Life, Career Services, and other campus offices that serve international students.
Supervise student staff and assist the Executive Director with staff training and supervision.
Demonstrates understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities:
Skills and Abilities: Experience with Ellucian products (Banner), communication tracks, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience working with SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Information System), batch processing, serving as PDSO or DSO, and international student advising. Additional experience in campus globalization efforts and international partnerships. International recruiting, admissions, immigration processes, effectively managing staff, and building international partnerships. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong organizational and planning skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, perform multiple assignments, and complete projects promptly. Willingness to travel nationally and overseas as needed. Experience working with others from diverse cultures. Demonstrated commitment, experience, and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
