Position Overview:

The Choice Program is seeking an Assistant Director of Vocational Programming to oversee the programmatic functions of program’s career, college and civic readiness teams in Baltimore City. The position coordinates assigned activities with the Associate Director of Jobs to ensure training, staffing and team operations are aligned with objectives of Choice Jobs and Education programming. The position also oversees the implementation of educational programming for young people, including College Night, which introduces young people to university campuses.

Responsibilities:

The position oversees the programmatic functions of The Choice Program’s career, college and civic readiness teams in Baltimore City. The Choice Program utilizes an anti-racist, community based, family centered approach to promote high-quality outcomes for young people and families. The Choice Program engages in a collaborative process of service where young people set goals for themselves and are held accountable by supportive adults along the way. The program’s approach to youth development is grounded in applied critical race theory and culturally responsive, trauma-informed practices. The Choice Program employees strive to build an anti-racist organization grounded in several core values, including holistic development, belief in humans and youth-centeredness.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Jobs and Education team of Choice Coordinators to ensure quality programming for youth enrolled in Choice vocational programming
  • Overseeing College Night coordination
  • Ensuring grant and budget deliverables for Choice vocational programming
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with Baltimore City schools 
  • Developing new partnerships with local employers in various sectors to expand vocational opportunities for youth
  • Engaging in training opportunities to foster positive youth development
  • May provide direct services to youth
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Two years of experience working with vocational training services, K-12 education, human services or a related field
  • Two years supervisory experience 
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle where you are on the insurance

Note: A Master's degree or 30 graduate level credits in an accredited graduate program may be substituted for the two years of required experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Youth development programming
  • Experience mentoring youth
  • Experience working or volunteering for an organization, institution or company with, or personally having, a strong commitment to anti-racist practices, equity and inclusion
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus
