What we want

The Assistant Director of Training oversees the psycholgy intern and practicum programs, supervises staff, provides crisis intervention, counseling services, outreach programs, and consultation. This position assists the director with general administrative tasks.

What you need to know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree in Counseling, Educational or Clinical Psychology or related field

  • One year of full-time post-licensing experience in a college counseling center

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Counseling, consultation, supervision, psychoeducational presentations, applied research, program coordination and development

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • More than one year of full-time post-licensing experience in a college counseling center; three years administrative experience

  • APA accredited internship

  • Board Certified in Counseling, National Board of Certified Counselors or Board Certified in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology, Inc. 

  • Licensed Psychologist with a doctorate degree

  • Administrative and supervisory skills; sensitivity to and knowledgeable of effective means of assisting students with presenting concerns and from a variety of programs and backgrounds

Responsibilities:

  • Administrative - Oversees APA accredited training program, including updating program, writing annual reports, and compliance with APA requirements. Oversees practicum training program, supervises staff; outreach programs, and consultation; and assists the Director with general administrative tasks.

  • Direct Service - Provides individual, couples, and group counseling. Provides crisis intervention and consultation to faculty, staff, and students.

  • Supervision - Trains, evaluates, and supervises subordinate staff and provides consultation to all staff as necessary.  Provides input to the hiring and termination process.

  • Committee Work - Represents University Health Services, Counseling & Mental Health Care, and other functions as appropriate and as requested by the Director. Attends UHS and University meetings as appropriate and serves on UHS and University committees as appropriate and approved by the Director.

  • Consultation - Provides consultation to SCS staff and TAMU faculty and staff.

  • Professional Relations - Maintains active affiliation with relevant professional organizations. Assists the Director with organizational and administrative tasks as requested. Performs other duties as assigned.
