The Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources (E-IPER) is an interdisciplinary program (IDP) that trains the next generation of interdisciplinary scholars and leaders to address the world's most challenging environmental and sustainability problems. E-IPER offers a PhD in Environment and Resources and, for students in Stanford's Graduate School of Business, Stanford Law School or School of Medicine, a Joint MS in Environment and Resources in conjunction with their professional degree (MBA, JD or MD).

This opportunity to serve as the Assistant Director of Student Services of the Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources may be for you! The Assistant Director of Student Services plays an integral role in administering Program, School and University policies and procedures on issues regarding admissions, financial aid, degree progress, visas, student life and academic services.

The Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources (E-IPER) is seeking a resourceful, flexible and collaborative Assistant Director of Student Services (SSO2) to support students in the growing and dynamic PhD program. This position is responsible for day-to-day advising, student services, and programmatic support for approximately 42 students in this unique interdisciplinary graduate program.
The ideal candidate should possess a positive outlook on continuous process improvement efforts while maintaining a team-based and customer-focused mindset and perform with a high level of professionalism, flexibility, discretion, judgment, diplomacy, and tact.
The Assistant Director of Student Services will work as part of our collaborative Student Services team and will report to the Associate Director of Operations and Student Affairs.


Your Responsibilities will include:

    • Provide advice to PhD students on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, community standards, etc., in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.
    • Manage PhD admissions process, including correspondence, coordination of application review process and prospective student site visit.
    • Work on a Student Services team supporting E-IPER's student support services and student leadership activity.
    • Oversee, analyze and assist in some aspects of financial processes and budget deliberations; manage graduate financial aid and apprise students of up-to-date research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities.
    • Coordinate events such as dissertation defenses and commencement.
    • Organize co-curricular programming and events, collaborating with student and staff teams.
    • Develop and implement outreach and communications efforts. Some examples include E-IPER newsletter, Slack channels, LinkedIn and alumni relations.
    • Act as one of the program liaisons to Registrar's Office, Bechtel, Graduate Admissions, SDSS Student Services, and Y2E2 Building Team.
    • Prepare reports and presentations, summarizing data from multiple sources.
    • Identify and evaluate data needs, manage the implementation and development of technology.
    • Serve as a member of school- and university-wide teams and projects.

To be successful in this position, you will need: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong communication skills to share information clearly and effectively to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
    • Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills.
    • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Advanced customer service skills.
    • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
    • Understanding of financial transactions.
    • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

The expected pay range for this position is $68,000 to $104,000 per annum.
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
