Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Assistant Director of Pre-College Services is the primary liaison and responsible for university level communication between all prospective pre-college students, their families, K-12 School Administrators and Lake Superior State University (LSSU). Prospective pre-college students include all inquiries, applicants, admits, visitors, camp participants, and students engaged in any and all forms of pre-college programing and activities. The Assistant Director of Pre-College Services maintains and manages the communication, processes, data stewardship, and reporting for all pre-college enrollment activities: including program execution, recruitment, application, enrollment, and mentoring of students in concurrent/dual/early middle college programs. The pre-college enrollment responsibilities also encompass the cultivation of administrators and teachers at the Eastern Upper Peninsula Independent School District (EUPISD) central office and all 13 schools as well as all LSSU sponsored Charter Schools and any other K-12 entity LSSU executes a contract with. The Assistant Director of Pre-College Services also manages the activities of Enrollment Services Representatives who assist in the execution of all duties within the Assistant Director’s responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Director of Pre-College Services duties and responsibilities are quite comprehensive in that the incumbent is critical to the success of Lake Superior State University’s enrollment initiatives at all levels. The Assistant Director is the primary source for all university level communication to all prospective pre-college students and families, the university’s source on all data concerning prospective pre-college student engagement and activities, and the primary liaison to all EUPISD, Charter School, and other K-12 administrators on all matters related to concurrent/dual/early middle college development, expansion, and execution as well as the recruitment, enrollment, and mentoring of students.  The role requires regular travel to represent LSSU at secondary institutions utilizing university-provided transportation. Travel is most intense during the months of September through November and February through April but does occur throughout the year.  The nature of the position occasionally requires evening and weekend responsibilities and commitments.

  • Initiate, execute, and manage much of the university level communication plans and strategies generated from the Division of Enrollment Management as it specifically relates to pre-college activities and services.
  • Manage all data acquisition and intake activities for pre-college students.
  • Manage all data associated with pre-college inquiry, prospect, applicant, and enrolled pre-college students.
  • Organize, analyze, cull, and report data for the Division of Enrollment Services and respond to appropriate data requests from campus and secondary school constituents on pre-college recruiting enrollment activities.
  • Work collaboratively with all campus constituents to enhance and expand LSSU’s concurrent/dual/early middle college offerings.  Campus constituents include deans, faculty, Charter School Office, Registrar’s Office, Business Office, and Institutional Research in addition to any other LSSU agents or actors that complement or amplify LSSU’s pre-college offerings.
  • Work in coordination with the EUPISD personnel and administrators, counselors, and teachers at all 13 schools to promote and enhance LSSU’s presence and maximize enrollment in our concurrent/dual/early middle college offerings.
  • Explore options for continued expansion of concurrent/dual/early middle college offerings with Charter School and other K-12 administrators and personnel.
  • Manage agreements with all partners as well as assess and monitor performance across all agents and actors.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures aligned with the National Alliance of Concurrent Partnerships (NACEP) criteria, leading to NACEP accreditation.
  • Manage the recruitment, enrollment, and mentoring/coaching of all students enrolled in concurrent/dual/early middle college offerings.
  • Plan and execute all development and operational aspects of the Early Middle College program.
  • Manage academic program plans for all Early Middle College students to ensure retention, success, and graduation
  • Coordinate with campus partners to ensure wrap around academic support services for Early Middle College students
  • Coordinate with the Michigan Department of Education and the Early Middle College Association to assure compliance with all program reporting guidelines and requirements.
  • Train, direct and supervise the activities of Enrollment Services Representatives as well as any other enrollment services personnel activated to assist in periods of high demand.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree.
High level of computer literacy
Exceptional organizational and communication skills
Ability to manage, supervise, and direct colleagues

Appreciation of complexity, the ability to navigate nuance, and understand and interpret workflows

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree
Knowledge of customer relationship management systems (CRM)
Knowledge of student information systems (SIS)
Primary and/or secondary school experience
High level of proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe

Physical Demands:

-Adequate physical fitness to maintain long hours and busy schedule
-Use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties
-Use of fine motor skills in operation of keyboard equipment
-Problem-solving ability
-Ability to understand and work with numbers and data
-Ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks
-Mental capacity to assist with numerous administrative responsibilities

Work Hours: 

Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, Occasional evening and/or weekend work required.
