Assistant Director of Housing Facilities, UM Housing

The Assistant Director of Facilities for UM Housing (UMH) develops and maintains the technical and professional expertise necessary to participate in, oversees, or assists in the leadership of the maintenance, repairs, renovations, ground improvements, infrastructure management, and related building maintenance of UMH facilities. In collaboration with the Associate Director of Facilities for UMH, the Assistant Director provides leadership for management of capital projects, work order completion and strategic improvements, departmental safety and security procedures, quality assurance, procurement and inventory processes, sustainability initiatives, utilization of technology, and general project management. This role assists and supports the Associate Director of Facilities in ensuring consistent and reliable delivery of all services carried out by UM Housing Facilities team.

You will provide professional assessments of facility conditions and inventory, including planning and implementing a 10 Year Capital Improvement plan. In this position you will collaborate with Housing staff to ensure accurate and timely loading of inventory for Residence Halls, University Village, and Lewis and Clark.  This position will provide coordination and oversight of Housing inventory along with the Associate Director of Facilities.

You will assist the Associate Director of Facilities in the management of annual maintenance and repairs, equipment, and major capital projects and construction.  This position is an active member of the Housing Leadership team.  As a part of the Leadership Team, you will write and contribute to Housing policies and procedures, strategic planning, marketing planning, and facilities master planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Aid the Associate Director in ensuring the quality, safety and efficient project management for UM Housing facilities,
  • Conduct surveys, audits, and inspections at all residence halls & university apartments to ensure a safe environment and compliance with safety rules and standards
  • Conduct surveys, audits, and monitor trends for UM Housing facilities to ensure continued quality, and promote required improvements
  • Develop comprehensive training programs and tracking programs for all maintenance and repair annually
  • In collaboration with UMH staff and UM IT, oversee implementation and use of facilities related technology to improve department operations and provide training and support to facilities staff in adopting and utilizing new technology
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other areas of the department to assist in or oversee training student and full-time staff in facilities related processes and procedures as appropriate
  • Support the Associate Director in managing capital budgets
  • Act decisively, diplomatically, and exercise independent judgment and discretion to advance and protect departmental and University relations in resolving situations
  • Supervise assigned facilities staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Details
  • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
  • Salary for this position is $60,000- $68,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of progressively responsible facilities management, skilled trade and maintenance, custodial; or related experience or a combination of experience and education
  • Ability to read instructions, safety information, policies and procedures and apply critical thinking skills
  • Experience utilizing technology in facilities operation and/or maintenance practices

Preferred Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building maintenance and repair; facility budget management; and purchasing and inventory practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of, and ability to understand Collective Bargaining Agreements
