Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director of Health & Counseling for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion reports to the Associate Director, Counseling Center of Retriever Integrated and serves in a key administrative role, working with the Director and the leadership team Retriever Integrated Health’s integrated approach to reaching and supporting historically underserved and currently oppressed students’ health and wellness. In addition to providing clinical mental health services, the Assistant Director will help evaluate student needs and support faculty and staff members to promote students' success and wellbeing. They will coordinate training and professional development opportunities to improve these services and support diversity, equity, and inclusion within our team. They will also assist with budgeting, planning, implementing, and evaluating (Continuous Quality Improvement) equity-focused programs and services. This staff member will represent the Center to the University community. They are a member of the Center's leadership team and provide coverage for the Director when needed. The position requires some evening and weekend hours. 

UMBC RIH Counseling staff are responsible for providing counseling services for students experiencing personal, social, and emotional difficulties that may impede academic progress. The range of these services includes initial assessments, short term individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals to campus resources and outside campus providers. Other responsibilities include mental health outreach and programs. Staff members may provide training and supervision for Center trainees in psychology,  social work or counseling , and training for paraprofessional staff and student peer groups. They also provide consultation for the UMBC community.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in professional psychology (e.g., PhD, PsyD) or masters-level clinical/counseling degree (e.g., MSW, MFT)
  • Minimum of three years of post-licensure clinical experience
  • Strong consultation skills with campus and/or key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated supervisory, administrative, and/or program management experience 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in and a commitment to social justice, health equity, and cultural humility 
  • Experience working with individuals from culturally diverse populations (i.e. minoritized, oppressed, underrepresented, and/or underserved populations)
  • Demonstrated understanding and clinical application of the intersectionality of identity and wellness
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload
  • Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • History of work within a multidisciplinary and/or integrated healthcare setting
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in providing health/mental health outreach, programs, and/or education
  • Experience providing clinical supervision

Licensure/ Certification Preferred:

Licensed to practice independently in Maryland or for Psychologist licensed within first year of employment.
