Job Summary
The Office of Financial Services is accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Financial Accounting. The Assistant Director is responsible to the Director of Financial Accounting for the management of monthly reconciliation of the university’s main operating and payroll bank accounts; analyzing the university cash flow; coordination and submission of various external reports; researching, reconciling, and balancing financial records with accounting reports and related financial information; preparing journal entries; and, coordinating the annual processing and distribution of W-2 forms. Manages accounts payable disbursement processing for university, Foundation, and Research Foundation; receipting of bank deposits; scanning and retention of all financial accounting documents, and, inventory reconciliations. Direct supervision of information research technicians. Assumes the role of Director of Financial Accounting in his/her absence.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of university, Tennessee Board of Regents, state and federal rules, regulations, procedures, and accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards.
  • Knowledge of personal computers including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of proper reconciliation procedures.
  • Ability to work with a computerized online accounting system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and employees.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field, supplemented with at least 24 semester hours of accounting. 
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in business or accounting. 
  • Two years of supervisory experience
