Position Overview:

The Assistant Director for Facilities & Operations provides operational, administrative and budgetary leadership for facility maintenance and operations of The Commons, University Center and Fine Arts Recital Hall within UMBC.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director for Facilities & Operations is responsible for nurturing and supporting a dynamic, solution-oriented team of professionals who manage the facilities and operations of several spaces on campus. This individual will provide direct supervision to a team of five, full-time staff and one graduate assistant, and is responsible for unit goal setting, staff development, assessment and evaluation and budgetary recommendations annually. Additionally, this position supervises a building manager who is responsible for planning and executing large-scale facility improvements within The Commons, University Center activity spaces and the Fine Arts Recital Hall in collaboration with Facilities Management. The role is responsible for advising and consulting with the Director of Campus Life on the development of an annual budget in excess of one million dollars. Additionally, they will oversee the development, prioritization and execution of multiple, simultaneous facilities improvement projects annually. This position serves on the leadership team for Campus Life and is critical in the overall shared success of the department.  

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two years of experience in university facilities and operations, budgeting and managing facility projects and physical assets.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master’s Degree in Business Management, Higher Education or a field related to facility management and planning
  • Emergency preparedness training/facilitation experience
  • Supervisory experience
