Work Schedule
8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday with frequent evening, weekend, and holiday hours required in accordance with events schedule.
This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position will report to the Associate Athletic Director for Broadcast Video and Technology, and will assist in the production and management of live sports broadcasts for ESPN+, in-venue productions, and other university events.
Producing and directing broadcasts for the ESPN Digital Network is the primary responsibility of the Assistant Director of Broadcasting. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with broadcast department staff, student, and freelance workers to ensure needs are met for productions.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience related to the area of assignment in a broadcast television, radio, and emerging media environment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in radio, television, and motion picture and one year of experience in communications, public information, marketing, or television production work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Job Duties
This position will report to the Associate Athletic Director for Broadcast Video and Technology, and will assist in the production and management of live sports broadcasts for ESPN+, in-venue productions, and other university events.
Other Work Responsibilities
  • Producing and directing broadcasts for the ESPN Digital Network is the primary responsibility of the Assistant Director of Broadcasting. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with broadcast department staff, students, and freelance workers to ensure needs are met for productions.
  • This position will manage all pre-broadcast processes such as building graphics, obtaining and editing melts, coordinating coaches & talent meetings, and other duties as required.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Degree in Videography, Communications, Broadcasting, or other technical fields and 12 months of industry experience in broadcasting or video production.
  • Experience producing broadcasts on streaming platforms such as ESPN+
  • Knowledge of broadcast production equipment such as switchers, Ross carbonite, Ross Xpression, replay, audio consoles, and cameras.
  • Experience managing broadcast staff such as students, freelancers, and talent.
  • Experience planning broadcasts.
  • Experience working in broadcast control rooms or mobile TV units.
