Job Overview

The Assistant Director of Athletics Annual Giving supports the deployment of a comprehensive and strategic direct response fundraising plan to build a strong and sustainable base of donor support for Georgetown Athletics and its 30 varsity sports.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the planning and execution of a multi-channel, $6+ million annual direct response fundraising programs to grow the base of support from alumni-student athletes, alumni, parents, and fans and friends
  • Liaising with four sports, coaches and support clubs to fundraise for sport-specific campaigns, seasons, post-seasons and special projects
  • Leveraging internal partnerships to identify seasonal fundraising opportunities and marketing calendar for four sports
  • Working with the Director and Associate Director, Athletics Annual Giving and other essential partners to include a solicitation and awareness strategy for all major communications
  • Supporting the deployment of all standard direct response marketing and fundraising appeals for Georgetown Athletics
  • Supporting the accurate use of the Athletics brand in Annual Giving direct response marketing, including all marks, logos, colors and consumer art
  • Collaborating with Annual Giving Data Analytics to identify and manage comprehensive constituent data for annual standard fundraising appeals
  • Working with the Advancement Gift Administration team to ensure gifts to Athletics Annual Giving campaigns are processed and tracked in a timely and accurate manner
  • Working closely to maximize fundraising and engagement efforts with partners – for example, Hoyas Unlimited, the Athletics Department, Georgetown Athletics Ticket Office, Marketing and Promotions, Athletics Communications, and Athletics Development

Work Interactions

The Office of Advancement's Annual Giving team drives donor acquisition, retention and growth for Georgetown University through traditional and innovative direct response marketing strategies, in-depth analysis, and strong internal partnerships. The team is comprised of three functional areas: data and analytics, marketing operations, and school and unit partnerships.

The Athletics Annual Giving team reports centrally to Annual Giving, and the Assistant Director reports to the Director for Athletics Annual Giving.

  • Athletics Development and Engagement colleagues
  • Varsity coaches
  • The Hoyas Unlimited Board of Directors
  • Athletics support clubs, donors, volunteers and student-athletes

  • Athletics Marketing and Promotions

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in direct response marketing, development/fundraising, or similar - preferably in athletics
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to work well on a team
  • Strong organization skills and a detail orientation
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, and to consistently meet all deadlines and goals
  • Ability to assimilate data, exercise sound judgment and discretion, and work independently
  • Accuracy in materials preparation and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.), Adobe Publisher, WordPress, Google Analytics and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Preferred qualifications

Experience with CRMs (preferably Salesforce), email marketing tools (preferably Marketing Cloud), and/or Microsoft Office Suite
