Description of Department:
ARTSwego serves as a catalyst for high-quality arts programs that enhance the cultural environment of the university and augment academic offerings. Hosting between 8 and 10 performances a year between two performing arts series, ARTSwego seeks to introduce students to art forms and performances by artists from around the world, different from those offered by the mass market. ARTSwego is a small department consisting of the Director of Arts Programming and Assistant Director of Arts Programming, with support from undergraduate interns and graduate assistants.
The School of Communication, Media and the Arts (SCMA) is one of four schools at SUNY Oswego. In addition to ARTSwego, it houses the academic departments of Art and Design, Communication Studies, Cinema and Screen Studies, Music, and Theatre. All departments have an outward-facing mission for the greater community in the form of concerts, exhibitions, recitals, plays, film festivals, and other arts events each year.

Description of Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Director of Arts Programming at SUNY Oswego serves as administrative point-person for all ARTSwego operations and funded programs. This dynamic position involves overseeing a consistent and vibrant brand for all communication and marketing strategies, creating or overseeing the creation of promotional and marketing materials to ensure ARTSwego's presence remains compelling and cohesive, and supporting event coordination throughout the ARTSwego season. Responsibilities extend to coordinating activities for ARTSwego performers, the Artist-in-Residence, facilitating poster and program design processes for Theatre Department performances, and overseeing interns and/or graduate assistants. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Arts Programming interfaces with faculty from various departments, fostering collaboration through ARTSwego programs, event support through the ARTSwego funding opportunities, departmental arts event promotion and encourages faculty participation. Seeking a creative and organized individual with a passion for the arts, this role plays a pivotal part in the success and growth of SUNY Oswego's vibrant arts community. The Assistant Director of Arts Programming will work closely with the Director of Arts Programming, the Dean of the School of Communication, Media and the Arts, as well as faculty and staff from across campus.
  • Occasional evening and weekends required for assisting with performing arts events.
  • In addition, the Assistant Director of Arts Programming will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree by time of appointment, or bachelor's degree plus 3 years relevant experience
  • Experience in publicity and marketing
  • Ability to use Google suite/Microsoft office suite
  • Basic office skills including experience using various social media platforms
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Adobe Cloud applications, InDesign and/or Photoshop
  • Experience in the arts and/or event management
  • Experience reviewing artist contracts and/or grant writing
