Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The primary goal of the Office of Admission at Fayetteville State University is to attract and enroll a diverse student body that represents a wide range of geographic, religious, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. To do so, the Office of Admission will work closely with alumni and other constituencies to support recruitment efforts while promoting excellent customer service & transparency about the admission process.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Assistant Director of Admission is the primary source of articulating information about the University to prospective students, families, and educational leaders in their designated recruitment territory and is responsible for meeting the enrollment goal for the targeted region. The Assistant Director of Admission 1.) conducts programs and activities to meet enrollment goals of a region (on/off campus & virtually); 2.) drafts original correspondence, answers e-mails, and telephones prospective students, parents, and school officials as needed to disseminate information about the University; 3.) makes individual judgments regarding the status of an applicant’s file, renders admissions decisions; 4.) contacts accepted students to encourage them to enroll; and 5.) This person will also assist with other duties as assigned.
This position requires a valid driver’s license, making presentations before small and large groups, and setting up display materials.
Description of Work Continued:
Conduct programs and activities (on/off campus and virtually) to meet enrollment goals of a region, including the following: a. Identify potential sources of students in an assigned geographic territory b. Represent the University at high school visits, college day/night programs c. Conduct information sessions for groups and individuals d. Conduct campus tours 2.) Correspond with prospective students, parents, and school officials as needed to disseminate information about the University, including a. Prepare letters and other written documents. Send and respond to e-mail messages and have telephone conversations with prospective students and their parents and school officials. b. Schedule on-campus visits and meetings with prospective students and their parents and school officials. 3) Makes admission decisions about applicants, including a. Review applicants’ files to ensure they are complete. b. Evaluate applicants’ credentials considering admission criteria and make judgments about student’s admissibility. 5.) Contact accepted students to encourage them to enroll, including a. Make telephone calls, send e-mail messages, and make visits with accepted students to encourage them to enroll. b. Communicate with other offices to seek support in encouraging accepted students to enroll. c. Assist with programs for newly admitted students. 6.) Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director of Admissions.
Marketing and Branding-40%:
Recruit new first-year freshmen to the university by engaging prospective applicants on/off campus and virtually. The incumbent will participate in the planning and execution of on-campus programming to welcome guests to learn about the application process at Fayetteville State University and encourage them to apply and enroll upon admission.
Communication-Written-30%:
The position will be responsible for clearly communicating the requirements for admission to Fayetteville State University’s degree programs and deadlines and for encouraging applicants to apply and matriculate at the university. Requirements include in-person, phone, and electronic communication.
Admissions -20%
Increased awareness of the school through feeder schools, virtual and on/off campus recruiting. Create and build pipelines to continuously communicate programs offered through recruitment efforts. Ensure that all brand materials effectively communicate all deadlines, admission criteria, and admission events on and off campus to the university community.
Supervision-10%:
Responsible for onboarding new temporary staff, ensuring that they are trained on recruitment policies & expectations, and gaining access to university systems. Provide guidance to temporary staff, monitor their performance, and address issues or concerns that arise.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • The position requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have the ability to render decisions based on the interpretation of program policy and procedures preferably at the collegiate level in student services. Strong communication skills, both written and oral are required.
