Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:
Serve in a lead role in the administration, operation, and management of the University of Rhode Island Metcalf Institute’s professional training and public programming, engagement, and network building.
Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee day-to-day operations of the Metcalf Institute, including coordination of programming and events, implementation of contracts and logistics, budget and communications oversight in coordination with Metcalf’s Scientific Research Grant Associate and Communications Specialist.
Liaise with University of Rhode Island administrative offices in areas of operational interest, including but not limited to the Office of General Counsel, Controller, Instructional Technology, Office of Sponsored Projects, and the College of the Environment and Life Sciences.
Report to and work in cooperation with the Executive Director on management of the Institute to safeguard efficient and effective operations, professional internal and external relations, and programmatic strategic goals.
Oversee the development of comprehensive project and data management systems, using tools such as Asana and datasheets/databases for impact tracking and reporting. Manage student employee and intern assignments. Supervise students and consultants in coordination with other team members.
Supervise scientific research grant associate to ensure fiscal compliance and timely reconciliation of expenditures on Metcalf Institute funds.
Supervise Communications Specialist to achieve Metcalf Institute communications and marketing goals and outcomes across varied platforms. Supervise the development and maintenance of Metcalf Institute’s websites.
Work in cooperation with and support Metcalf Institute Executive Director and development staff on fundraising and development goals.
Work seamlessly within Metcalf Institute’s team-based management structure to ensure high-level output in an ongoing multi-project environment.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Represent the Executive Director as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers, fax machines, scanners, word processing, design software, database management, browser-based, graphical and spreadsheet software, Google Workspace.
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED:
1. Master’s degree in communication, management, business or related field.
2. Minimum of four years of experience in administration, operations, and/or public programming/events.
3. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
4. Demonstrated supervisory experience.
5. Demonstrated organizational skills.
6. Demonstrated experience coordinating and executing in-person and virtual events.
7. Demonstrated experience in using data management and analysis tools.
8. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
9. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
10. Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects on competing deadlines.
11. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED:
1. Demonstrated proficiency in project management and database management software (such as Asana, Filemaker Pro, Airtable, Google sheets).
2. Demonstrated experience with academic policies and procedures.
3. Demonstrated experience in grant management (pre- and post-award).
4. Demonstrated experience with operational budgets.
5. Demonstrated management experience.
6. Demonstrated experience with marketing or communications.
