Position Summary
Assist in the management of Patrol Operations and Operational Support, oversees day-to-day law enforcement operations, provides strategic planning and guidance to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of police services for both on and off campus.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in the management of day-to-day administration of law enforcement operations.
  • Collaborate with Command staff and executive team members to determine and prioritize strategies.
  • Assists with strategic law enforcement initiatives.
  • Criminal Investigation Oversight: Oversees criminal investigations, ensuring that cases are thoroughly investigated and evidence is properly collected and preserved.
  • Assists with professional standards and internal investigations.
  • Provides crime prevention strategies and serve as a liaison with other law enforcement agencies in the region. 
  • Plans and coordinates law enforcement trainings and workshops.
  • Office of General Counsel Liaison: Serves as a liaison between the Police Department and the Office of General Counsel, ensuring that legal guidance is provided to support police operations.
  • Student Conduct Liaison: Oversees/participates in student conduct investigations, ensuring that university policies are upheld and students are held accountable for their actions.
  • CARE Team: Collaborates with the CARE Team to provide support and resources to students in crisis.
  • Provides training and guidance on investigations and report writing, ensuring that police officers are equipped to effectively document and investigate crimes.
  • Representative in University Hearings: Represents the Police Department in university hearings, providing expert testimony and guidance to ensure that university policies are upheld.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires working a rotating day/evening shift.
  • The person will also be on-call 24 hours per day and must be able to perform the general tasks of a Police Officer.  
  • Conditions can be very stressful.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree.
  • Additional certifications in areas such as forensic science, crime scene investigation, or crisis management.
  • Extensive experience in criminal investigations.
  • Advanced knowledge of state and federal law.
  • Demonstrated abilities for attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to create PowerPoint presentations.
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in strategic planning and project management experience.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 15 years of Law Enforcement Experience, with at least 10 years in criminal investigations and 5 years of supervisory experience as a Sergeant or above.
  • Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification within 60 days of hire.

Salary Range
$73,700.00 - $125,900.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
