Brandeis University seeks to hire an Assistant Director for Internships and Outreach that will become a key player in the Journalism Program's reinvention efforts. This person will build an internship program for journalism minors, doing outreach and forging partnerships with regional media organizations to create pathways that help Brandeis students secure meaningful opportunities for experiential learning. This person will also lead outreach efforts to attract more students of color, first-gen students, and other underrepresented students to journalism, helping them find the agency that the field offers to share their voices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Builds and oversees an internship program, forging partnerships with media organizations to establish and organize internship opportunities for journalism minors and burnish a brand for what employers can expect from Brandeis interns.

  • Leads outreach efforts to help attract more students of color, first-gen students and other underrepresented students to the Brandeis Journalism Program, building relationships on and off campus. Also works with Connected PhD fellow and a diverse group of students to help provide support to journalism faculty for diversifying course readings and materials.

  • Leads efforts to re-engage Brandeis alumni working in media. Establishes and leads a pilot program to create a program enabling Brandeis journalism students to shadow Brandeis alumni or allies working in the media world for one week during the winter break.

  • Assists Program Director with assorted responsibilities including grant-writing.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required. 

  • 3-5 years of related work experience; at least 5-8 years is strongly preferred.

  • Entrepreneurial skills, organizational/programmatic skills are required

  • Experience working directly with college students is preferred
