Primary Purpose
Develop and provide leadership for the Housing and Residence Life program for students based on community development and student academic success themes. The position is responsible for supervising and managing the day-to-day housing operations and leadership for student residents, community assistants, administrative assistant, and the Residence Life Coordinator; developing and maintaining the overall mission and vision; and assisting the Dean of Student Engagement in all areas of a comprehensive housing program. Additionally, this position is responsible for the coordination and leadership of the COCC summer conference program, to include day-to-day oversight and management as well as marketing and business development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
  • Develop and maintain the mission and vision of the residence life program and housing operations. Collaborate with other College departments to design and implement a residence life and housing operations plan, including outcomes and deliverables. Planning grounded in academic success and community development approaches.
  • Supervise the residence life coordinator (professional, live-in staff) and Administrative Assistant, including hiring, prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, training, and monitoring compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Facilitate regular staff meetings with housing staff.
  • Provide secondary supervision and leadership for community assistants.
  • Provide management for all aspects of student housing application, agreement and associated processes using the College’s housing software program. Ensure accurate and up-to-date housing records within the software systems.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Create and generate data reports to track occupancy, student retention, and academic progress.
  • Document, update as needed, and maintain housing policies and procedures on housing, including eligibility, housing agreements, community and conduct expectations, and related areas.
  • Oversee and maintain the residence life webpages and social media identities.
  • Ensure residents are adhering to policies and procedures, enforcing College and residence hall policies through student conversations, educational discipline and communication with supervisor
  • Provide secondary support for student conduct administration in coordination with the Dean and Student Care and Conduct Coordinator.
  • Screen all facility work orders and as appropriate, submit work orders for building maintenance and repair needs.
  • Respond to emergencies and notify appropriate staff to provide additional support when necessary. Serve as the direct on-call administrator in absence of the Residence Life Coordinator and as the secondary on-call administrator at all times.
  • Provide input related to the housing operation budget.

Summer Conference Coordination
  • Assist with initiatives to promote the expansion of a summer conference program and coordinate residence hall facility needs and staff support.
  • Manage the summer conferencing portfolio to maximize value for the College, balance competing needs and avoid conflicts, meet the expectations of diverse clientele for the successful production of conferences, showcase the campus, and enhance the positive image of COCC.
  • Coordinate each group’s stay on campus to comprise of facility reservations and preparation, services while in residence, facility turnover, check-in/check-out process, keys and card access, billing/account reconciliation, food service needs, and payment verification. Working with residence life staff, ensure adequate day, evening, and weekend staffing during conference guest stays.
  • Work with appropriate departments to develop a billing/invoice process, as well as payment for all facility rentals and services for the summer conference program and associated events in support of annual revenue goals.

Other Duties
  • Participate in workgroups, trainings, College sponsored events, and programs.
  • Facilitate and lead training or similar events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

  • Ability to effectively utilize common Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) as well as the ability to learn and effectively utilize a student information system (Banner) as needed to perform essential responsibilities.
Ergonomic Requirements
Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms. Requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Hospitality Management or related field.
  • Two years’ experience in housing / residence life or related student services experience.
  • Two years’ supervisory experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Business Administration or related field.
    • Experience with Banner Ellucian software.
