Job Description Summary

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
  • Maintains proficiency with a specialized range of AV systems, IT equipment, and simulation equipment.
  • Configures, operates, troubleshoots, and maintains AV and simulation equipment.
  • Plans, designs, and implements high-fidelity simulations and task trainer-based activities, under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation.
  • Assists the Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation in development of policies and procedures related to High-Fidelity Simulation at the College of Medicine Simulation Lab (COMSIM).
  • Safeguards privacy and security of simulation center data and technology assets.
  • Creates realistic simulators, props, moulage, and environments to increase simulation fidelity.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of simulation terminology, procedures, and best practices.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Maintains an understanding of educational principles, regulations, and best practices and demonstrates these during simulation activities including training, assessments, and examinations.
  • Conducts and oversees student post-simulation debriefing and student/learner teaching.
  • Develops and delivers staff, faculty, and student education on the appropriate use of specialized equipment and resources within the center.
  • Ensures that center policies and procedures are followed by all employees and users.
  • Develops and delivers faculty education on best practices in simulation-based education.
  • Provides faculty with feedback on execution of these practices.
  • Ensures integration of educational best practices into simulation and advocates for integration of simulation technology into education.
  • Collects Facility and equipment utilization data and participant evaluation data.
  • Develops and implements quality assurance/improvement activities within the High-Fidelity Simulation unit and assists with QA/QI for the entire simulation center.
  • Communicates needs for personnel, space, and equipment for simulations to the Operations Manager/Director.
  • Maintains knowledge of and compliance with institution and industry policies, standards/best practices, and regulations, particularly SSIH accreditation standards.
  • Coordinates with the Operations Manager/Director with obtaining and maintaining SSIH accreditation of COMSIM.
  • Supervises part-time personnel within the High-Fidelity Simulation unit.
  • Coordinates with Operations Manager/Director in stock control, ensuring adequate security and levels of consumables and equipment are maintained.
  • Coordinates with the Operations Manager with accounting related to consumables and equipment.
  • Coordinates with Operations Manager/Director in ensuring prep and storage areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner and in complying with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains documents and records in support of simulation center operations.
  • Ensures that center policies and procedures are followed by all employees and users.
  • Delegates these duties as appropriate to Simulation Assistants and/or Technicians.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
