The Georgetown McDonough Career Center provides customized career advice, resources, connections, and mentorship to help undergraduate and graduate students use their education for career advancement and professional growth. With resources dedicated to each academic program as well as opportunities to collaborate across programs see how our expert career teams help students and alumni meet their career goals.

The Assistant Director is a highly specialized professional dedicated to supporting the career aspirations of students and alumni in the Master of Science in Environmental Sustainability Management (MSESM) program. They will be responsible for career programming, career coaching/student development, and alumni/employer engagement for students in the program. The Assistant Director will have the opportunity to lead and advance the strategic career initiatives for the program in partnership with members of the McDonough Career Center and the MS-ESM program. They will also be responsible for establishing and cultivating relationships with organizations for projects, internships, guest talks, and career panels, with a priority of engaging individuals from companies and organizations interested in hiring graduates of the program. Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Graduate and Executive Degree Programs, duties include but are not limited to:

Career Programming

  • Develop and deliver content for an early career student population by conducting workshops and webinars in all areas of career development and management, including resume, cover letter, job search, digital presence, networking, interviewing, offer negotiation, transition to the workplace - to ensure students are employer-ready in the competitive global recruiting environment.

  • Act as the main point of contact for students, faculty, and staff regarding the day-to-day execution of the MS-ESM program’s career initiatives.

Career Coaching / Student Development

  •  Provide 1:1, small, and large group career coaching to students throughout the academic year; Develop a career development / job search strategy to align with each student’s individual career goals.

  • Maintain consistent communication and monitor career progress.

Employer Development

  • Engage alumni and employers to build institutional hiring relationships for projects, internships, and full-time jobs post-graduation.

  • Develop new and grow existing relationships with alumni and employer contacts to create recruiting pipelines into organizations for graduate degree students, with an emphasis on the intersection of business, environment, and sustainability.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred

  • 3-5 years of experience in recruiting, human resources, employer relations or university career services

  • Knowledge and expertise within the environmental and sustainability fields

  • Career development expertise and knowledge of current trends in recruiting and job searching

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and relationship management skills

  • High degree of professionalism and the ability to positively represent Georgetown, the MS-ESM program and the career center to both internal and external audiences.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects within shared timeframes

  • Ability to adapt to changes in the external job market and translate needed changes to career programming, as appropriate

  • Understand appropriate and confidential information, file management, communication and storage

  • Experience working with and supporting students, staff, faculty, and employers

  • Contacts and experience within the intersection of business, environmental, and sustainability fields are highly preferred

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
