Assistant Director for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship

The Opportunity:

Under the supervision of the Director of Technology Transfer and with a dotted line to the Principal Investigator for the UCF Accelerating Research Translation (ART) Program, the Assistant Director for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship plays a pivotal role in managing all activities under the ART Program and its central component, the UCF Venture Lab, with the overarching goal of meeting the following Program objectives:

  • Strengthen and sustain the institutional infrastructure that translates research to the marketplace by creating a Venture Lab.

  • Offer educational and training opportunities that train individuals (especially graduate students and postdoctoral fellows) to become entrepreneurs or pursue translation-research-oriented careers.

  • Support specific seed translational research projects (STRPs) to create economic and societal impact and diversity research translation.

  • Create, expand, and sustain a network of ART Ambassadors to support innovation and research translation.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage a continuum of entrepreneurial support services for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and staff, including entrepreneurship education, business opportunity assessment and validation, startup company formation, management team recruitment, and business development and growth.

  • Oversee the Entrepreneur-in-Residence mentoring/coaching program under the Venture Lab.

  • Assist in managing the UCF ART budget and personnel and annual reports to NSF; track, monitor, analyze, and report to internal and external stakeholders on activities, progress, and impact of the ART Program and Venture Lab.

  • Plan, organize, and execute ART Program and Venture Lab events.

  • Coordinate promotion, marketing, and recruitment of students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty to participate in ART and Venture Lab.

  • Assist with the planning and executing process for the competitive selection of STRPs for funding.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry, investor, and entrepreneur communities to create and expand a network of innovation supporters, who will serve as ART Ambassadors.

  • Curate content and materials on innovation, research translation, and entrepreneurship to create, maintain, and expand the collection of resources for researcher entrepreneurs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience with at least 1+ year(s) of leadership experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years prior experience in entrepreneurship support and/or startup companies.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of entrepreneurial ecosystems with a preference on expertise in launching and growing technology startup companies.

  • Experience in planning, developing, and managing programs.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, networking, organizational, and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.

  • Proven ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and deliver results.

  • Proficiency in data collection, management, and reporting.

  • Master’s degree in business administration or STEM field preferred; additional education in entrepreneurship and innovation is a plus.
