Position Summary and Duties
The Assistant Director for Student Engagement assists with the development of class year and transition-related programming. The AD is responsible for integrating themes of identity and leadership development, social decision making and transitions, through the development of transition-related programming. The AD will collaborate with various campus departments to address the developmental needs of students in transition and deepen students’ understanding of a Jesuit education.
Essential Duties:
Assist in Advising the Student Government Association
  • Advise Class Governments (first-year through senior); serve as back-up advisor for the entire Student Government Association
  • Work directly with Class Presidents to create ways to build class identity, pride, and spirit
  • Collaborate with various campus departments to develop programming related to the specific transition of each class year, including milestone-related transitions
  • Guide students through successful leadership transitions and succession planning

Coordinate and implement transition-related programs and services
  • Programs to include, but not limited to: RoadTrip (sophomore retreat program), Transfer Student Organization, Commuter Student Organization, Veteran Student Organization
  • Develop learning outcomes and assessment for all programs
  • Recruit, market, and promote campus-wide transition programs, maintain class-year specific content on department website
  • Select, train, and develop student leaders to work with class-year related programs
  • Provide transition support and engagement opportunities for commuter and transfer students

Department Collaboration and Support
  • Collaborate with administrative departments to encourage faculty, staff, and administrators to participate in programs and encourage student participation
  • Facilitate the coordination of the six pre-fall programs, which take place prior to the fall semester
  • Represent the department to the Division of Student Development, the University, and external constituents
  • Support divisional/campus initiatives as required
  • Provide coverage for additional departmental events that often occur on evenings and weekends

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience within the field of higher education
  • Demonstrated understanding of Jesuit Mission/Ignatian Values, particularly the concept of Ignatian discernment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to positively engage and motivate students
  • Proven commitment to diversity and proven strengths in development students’ understanding of identity development, privilege, and social justice issues
  • Ability to multi-task and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a collaborative professional team
  • Ability to support the University’s goals for institutional diversity, as well as the goals and values of a Catholic, Jesuit education
