The Assistant Director for Student Activities provides leadership and direction to the Student Activities functional area which includes co-advisement to the Student Activities Board (SAB), oversight of evening and weekend programming, management of signature experiences, and support with initiatives run through the Office of Student Engagement (OSE).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director for Student Activities provides leadership and direction to the Student Activities functional area which includes co-advisement to the Student Activities Board (SAB), oversight of evening and weekend programming, management of signature experiences, and support with initiatives run through the Office of Student Engagement (OSE).
The Assistant Director will support the Director for Student Activities to create a comprehensive activities program that enhances the growth and development of all students by providing social, cultural, and educational opportunities for community engagement. This position will work closely with students to plan, develop, and coordinate events and activities to enhance the quality of student life and University experience for all students.
This position requires flexible hours as well as evening and weekend hours.
Serve as a co-adviser to the Student Activities Board (SAB) providing advisement in event planning, budget management, and leadership development. Oversee contractual negotiations/obligations and post-event assessment for student activities and related programs. The Assistant Director will work closely with SAB committees to develop a comprehensive calendar of events.
Provide support to the area of student activities with an emphasis on evening and weekend programs. Oversee the planning and implementation of evening and weekend programming in conjunction with a cross-divisional programming model. Plan and coordinate monthly travel/bus trips excursions for students and manage a chaperone program.
Oversee the coordination and advisement of the following experiences: Senior programming and related-commencement initiatives; Commuter programming and commuter engagement initiatives; Welcome week programming and engagement initiatives.
Develop, implement, and facilitate major events such as the Student Involvement Fair, Student Leadership Awards Ceremony, Student Leadership Conference, and other divisional initiatives in collaboration with team members from the Office of Student Engagement and/or Division of Student Services.
Assist with departmental operations including the following: the advisement and supervision of graduate interns, undergraduate student employees/interns; serve as a super-user for departmental engagement platforms and software programs; assist with annual departmental programs/initiatives and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- 1 to 3 years of professional work experience in student affairs at a college/university
- Knowledge and experience with event planning, programmatic models, student organization advising, and engagement and marketing best practices
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships among a diverse population of students, alumni and community partners
- Experience with tracking data to analyze programmatic assessment, student engagement, attendance, and enrollment
- Ability to plan, develop, implement, and assess programs and projects in student activities and student affairs
- Strong oral and written communication skills for a variety of constituents - students, colleagues, parents, and alumni; for report writing; for training and development
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field
- 2 to 4 years of professional work experience in student activities or programming/event planning in a college/university setting
