Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University seeks applications for an Assistant Director (AD) for Prestigious Awards and Fellowships. Reporting to the Director for Prestigious Awards and Fellowships, the candidate will be expected to manage multiple national and international awards from recruitment through submission, including several awards that will help build a strong pipeline of students to the Office of Prestigious Awards and Fellowships. The Assistant Director will oversee relationship building, handle large-scale communications efforts (newsletters, storytelling, etc.), and contribute to a high-functioning office that supports a significant number of students seeking awards and fellowships annually. 

The AD serves as the campus lead in Prescott, AZ for all activities (advising, programming, and mentoring) with the aim of furthering the office’s mission of empowering applicants and creating an award and fellowships culture at the Prescott Campus. The AD will conduct, recruit, advise and mentor prospective applicants for competitive national and international fellowships programs and graduate fellowships. The AD will provide important support and structures during the application process. The AD will utilize their creativity and pedagogical skills to develop programming and application resources to support fellowships. The AD works closely with the Director for Prestigious and Fellowships on all aspects of the Department’s operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of awards from recruitment through submission.
  • Identify key characteristics of successful applicants for each award.
  • Establish relationships with faculty and student groups from which to recruit.
  • Meet regularly with applicants to foster competitive application development.
  • Work alongside the Director to co-develop a strategy to recruit and maintain a robust fellowship and awards portfolio.
  • Lead or co-lead review panels to make decisions regarding student nominations for endorsed awards.
  • Provide insightful, objective feedback regarding student progress to facilitate important decisions regarding the advancement of candidates for top awards.
  • Maintain a database of student applicants and track award submission and outcomes.
  • Maintain student and alumni profiles and experiences to create a network for fellowship applicant support and document student successes.
  • Collaborate with other College offices in planning engagement in academic events.
  • Manage data collection to report on Prescott office efforts and outcomes and assist with the department’s end-of-semester/term and annual reports.
  • Assist with writing nomination letters for endorsed awards and fellowships.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with college-level students
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations and workshops to students, faculty, and staff
  • Good organization skills and the ability to multi-task to meet competing deadlines
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Canvas learning management system
  • Experience with nationally competitive scholarship and fellowship advising.
