PURPOSE

The Assistant Director of Housing Operations will support the Director of Housing Operations in managing all aspects of student housing operations at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Islander Housing is comprised of two different campus properties: Momentum Village and Miramar, totaling 2833 beds. The Associate Director will assist the day-to-day operations of the housing facilities, including coordinating maintenance and repairs, supervising the operations staff and ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional Area: Operations

Percent Effort: 30%

  • Assist the Director of Administration and Operations in managing the operations of the housing facilities, including residence halls and apartments.

  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs of the housing facilities, including the submission of maintenance requests and overseeing work orders management as it relates to the student experience.

  • Coordinate housekeeping of common areas and vacant room spaces

  • Coordinate the key check-in/check-out process for students and staff.

  • Assist with the planning and execution of the student move-in/move-out process.

  • Participates in planning, directing, and coordinating operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives.

  • Acts as a Mandatory Reporter (Campus Security Authority) as required by the Clery Act.

  • Participate in the on-call duty rotation with other members of the Housing and Residence Life team.

Functional Area: Administrative

Percent Effort: 30%

  • Develops reports, analyses, and surveys as requested by Associate Director of Administration and Operations.

  • Assist with budget planning for area(s) under their supervision and assists Director in planning and budgeting for department.

  • Ensure compliance with all unit, department, University, and government standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Enforce the terms and conditions of the Student Housing Contract, Resident Handbook, and all state/federal laws; investigate, resolve, and/or refer for adjudication.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive emergency management plan for the housing facilities. Working with Incident Command Team and Hurricane evacuation and response teams.

  • Participates in strategic planning based on assessment data and department goals.

  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as scheduled

Functional Area: Collaboration

Percent Effort: 20%

  • Collaborate with Islander Housing Communications Specialist to ensure proper communication surrounding maintenance, keys, and other operational concerns.

  • Collaborate with other university departments and stakeholders to promote student success and well-being.

  • Works with University Police Department, Counseling Center, and other campus departments on immediate response to incidents in the residence halls.

Functional Area: Supervision

Percent Effort: 20%

  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to four (4) operations coordinators and four (4) housekeepers.

  • Provides leadership for department along with and in absence of the Associate Director of Administration and Operations

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field

  • Six years of related experience.

  • Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum experience required:

    • Master’s in higher education or related field.

    • Four years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders, and to build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, faculty, and community partners.

  • Knowledge of budget management and financial reporting.

  • Experience with emergency management and crisis response.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as necessary.

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate staff members to achieve the highest levels of excellence.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from various backgrounds and identities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to housing and residence life, as well as industry best practices.

  • The successful Assistant Director role models ethics and consistent/fair decision-making and support for the Department at all times.

WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE

  • Progressive housing leadership professional experience.

  • Experience in the following areas is preferred: living learning communities, faculty in residence programs, residence hall associations, assessment, residential curricula, teaching, facilities management, and engagement in professional organizations (NASPA, ACPA, SWACUHO, ACUHO-I, TACUSPA, SWACURH, NACURH, etc.).

  • Experience with StarRez or other assignments software preferred.

  • Live-in residence life experience is preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to navigate a flexible schedule due to night and weekend duties as needed.

  • In the event of a weather-related emergency Assistant Director of Operations will assist with departmental and campus evacuation procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Directors, or Executive Director of Islander Housing.

SALARY

  • $52,000/annually, approximately ($4,333.34/monthly)
