Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition. |
Position Summary | The Assistant Director of Football Operations for the Department of Athletics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a key contributor responsible for providing support for the overall operations and development of the football program. Position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director/Football Operations and works directly with the coaching staffs and sport administrators to maximize resources in an effort to ensure athletic success and student development, working independently as well as collaboratively on projects, events, and special initiatives for the football program. Develop & streamline processes for a better overall student athlete experience. Key to this role is a focus on student athlete success, both competitively and academically, and developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as athletic staff, donors, families, community members, etc. Abide by all UNC, ACC, and NCAA regulations. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Minimum of 1 year experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities, or in an intercollegiate athletics environment. Excellent written and communication skills; project and event planning and execution experience; commitment to compliance with campus, conference and NCAA rules and policies; demonstrated initiative; well-developed problem-solving skills; ability to assess, prioritize and execute an array of important tasks around shared priorities; a strong interest and commitment to networking and development. Nights and weekend work required. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Strong organizational skills and effective communication skills essential. Successful experience in a professional intercollegiate environment. Experience recruiting football student-athletes preferred. High degree of integrity and the ability to maintain high ethical standards required. Thorough knowledge of NCAA and ACC rules and regulations essential; ability to adhere to university and departmental rules and regulations necessary. |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements | Must be able to move/lift 25 lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Must be able to manage a fast-paced, high volume environment. Attention to detail essential. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. Travel required. |
