Scope of Job
Responsible for the coordination and oversight of assigned areas of events and facility operations, including, but not limited to Event Management, Facility Maintenance and Facility Master Planning, Department Camps and Championship Planning/Hosting.
Description of Duties
  • Oversees assigned areas related to Events and Facilities Operations, with responsibility and oversight for the following areas: event management (including coordination with needed support services, such as parking, facility maintenance and capital planning), championship planning and hosting.
  • Directs staff for all assigned areas under guidance from the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Operations.
  • Assists in the development and continued update of the emergency response plans for all Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Monitors established contracts with service providers. Serves as the main contact for the following athletics contracts: concessions, event staffing and outside events.
  • Manages the department’s internal and external event’s calendar and approves all facility rental requests for athletic venues.
  • Assists in the coordination of capital projects and other facility renovations for athletics with applicable university departments.
  • Hires, trains and supervises assigned temporary staff.
  • Responsible for evaluating, developing, and managing policies and procedures related to the operation of athletic facilities and event operations.
  • Maintains and reviews the budget for athletic equipment, event operations, facilities, and maintenance.
  • Coordinates the security of all athletic venues and facilities with University Police Department and other applicable areas.
  • Acts as on-site administrator for assigned sports facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications
As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).
Required Experience
Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in athletics administration (high school or college), facilities and / or events management.

Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

  • Ability to effectively develop and nurture internal and external relationships. Proven track record of leadership in areas of event operations and facility management. Effective communication skills (oral and written).
  • Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures of the University, Conference and the NCAA. Assume complete responsibility to ensure that the student-athletes conduct themselves in an appropriate manner in accordance with NCAA policies.
  • Understand that violation(s) of NCAA rules could result in sanctions being placed against the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the University.
  • Attend regularly scheduled compliance meetings to maintain knowledge of current and recently established policies.
  • Have familiarity and knowledge of NCAA Division I rules required as part of job duties.
  • Ability to exhibit integrity with high ethical standards and strict adherence to NCAA, conference, university and departmental rules and regulations as well as solid commitment to academic integrity, student-athlete welfare, and any applicable NCAA standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with current coaching staff and prospective student-athletes.
