Assistant Director for AOD Prevention and Recovery (Social Services Professional 2 – MR09 ) Center for Wellbeing University of Tennessee, Chattanooga Salary Range: $50,000 - $53,000 The Assistant Director for AOD Prevention and Recovery, under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Wellbeing, is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating substance misuse prevention programs/initiatives for the UTC community. The position will improve the existing substance misuse prevention offerings on the campus, assess their impact, and assist with campus reports related to alcohol and drug misuse. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for coordination of the Mocs Recovery Program that is available free of charge to UTC students in all phases of recovery from addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs, mental health, process addictions, and eating disorders. The CRP is not a treatment program; rather, the focus is on creating a network of recovery support services that promote the personal, academic, and professional goals of students in recovery. Duties and Responsibilities: Program Development and Coordination Develop and assess programs, trainings, and initiatives that educate the campus on substance use/misuse, harm reduction, recovery, medical amnesty, and bystander intervention; use evidence-informed practices to guide programming around high-risk times such as spring break, St. Patrick's Day, 4/20, Halloween, etc.; partner to grow late-night, substance-free program offerings; oversee campus prescription drug take-back events and develop a plan to increase access to medication disposal materials and medication lock-boxes; create campaigns and large-scale initiatives to raise awareness about substance misuse, campus policies, bystander intervention, and social norms. Training & Facilitation Plan and facilitate trainings focused on substance misuse prevention and harm reduction. Current offerings include bystander trainings, alcohol education, cannabis education, opioid overdose prevention, Narcan, and recovery allyship; assist with training of interns conducting motivational interviewing sessions for students with alcohol and cannabis sanctions utilizing BASICS & CASICS education models; identify, train, and supervise peer leaders to support the recovery community, including eight weekly groups, workshops, community socials, and retreats; facilitate one-on-one support for students in recovery, as needed, to assist in building recovery capital, preventing return to use or distress, and referring to treatment. Collaboration Serve on committees focused on enhancing student wellbeing including Be Well (UTC's campus-wide wellbeing collaborative), Mocs Recovery Advisory Board, and UT System's Collegiate Recovery Collaborative; build and maintain partnerships with on-campus and off-campus organizations; attend meetings and events in the community to promote the substance misuse prevention and recovery services available at UTC. Assessment & Reporting Remain current on best practices in college health promotion with a focus on AOD and recovery assessments and interventions; identify short- and long-term goals measuring achievement in substance misuse prevention and recovery services; construct and manage evaluations of all programs and activities; assist with reports, including outcomes pertaining to AOD prevention, UTC's Biennial Review, and the Center for Wellbeing’s end of year report; compile data for grant reports, as required. Communication Create content and manage the Mocs Recovery Instagram account. Assist with content and management of the Center for Wellbeing Instagram account; develop educational digital and print materials to educate the campus about substance misuse, recovery, bystander intervention, and resources; update campus communication portals & offices to reflect upcoming meetings, programs, and initiatives; as requested, provide updates on substance misuse prevention efforts to administration, donors, and campus partners. The ideal candidate will possess the following: Review of applications will begin on May 13, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree with two years of relevant experience; Bachelor’s degree with four years of relevant experience; High school diploma/GED with eight years of relevant experience; experience working in a substance use disorder prevention, treatment, or recovery role; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Preferred Qualifications: More than two years of post-graduate degree professional experience working in a substance use disorder prevention, treatment, or recovery role; CADC or LADAC in Tennessee; experience working on a college campus.
