Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI) provides expertise and leadership at the University of Maryland around equity, diversity, ADA/504 compliance, and inclusion work. The following units are within ODI: ADA/504 Compliance, Bias Incidents & Support Services, Diversity Training & Education, LGBTQ+ Equity Center, Nyumburu Cultural Center, Office of Civil Rights & Sexual Misconduct, Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education (OMSE), and TerrapinSTRONG. The Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education (OMSE) offers a variety of services and programs to enhance the learning experience and promote the academic success of undergraduate students. OMSE collaborates with several other campus offices and college programs to provide unique collegial opportunities for our diverse population. Our office is an academic support unit that offers a variety of services and programs to enhance the academic experience of undergraduate students of various underrepresented ethnic backgrounds at the University of Maryland. The mission of OMSE is to serve undergraduate multi-ethnic students to increase rates of matriculation, retention, graduation, and overall GPA. The assistant director for academic outreach and student development will take a leadership role in the multi-faceted student development and outreach programs in the Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education, UMD. This position leads and oversees the Academic Tutorial Services program, Sister to Sister program and Serving Learning Certificate in OMSE. The assistant director for academic outreach and student development leads and executes annual events for OMSE in collaboration with others. This position serves on the OMSE leadership team and assists with creating and implementing programming to increase the matriculation, retention, and academic success and graduation of multi-ethnic students. The assistant director for academic outreach and student development assists you with establishing and implementing short and long range academic/advising strategies to exceed target goals for area of responsibility in collaboration with the director of OMSE. This position serves as a resource for staff and student employees in the absence of the director and/or other senior staff members as needed. The position also coordinates university and external group requests for campus tours and staff and student panel presentations by special request or referral from Conferences & Visitor Services and/or Admission Office; and serves as representative on university’s committees and at campus, regional, and national events, as requested. This position reports directly to the director. |
