Arizona State University’s W. P. Carey School of Business Career Services Center is seeking an Assistant Director of Employer Engagement who shares our passion for helping employer partners build their on-campus employment brand, navigate the complex university landscape, and optimize resources dedicated to hiring and attracting

The Employer Engagement team operates in a dynamic environment, consulting clients that are working to bring
strong talent into their organizations, and ensuring the work at the intersection of student and employer
engagement is a high-value and high-impact experience. This specific position will manage existing
recruitment-oriented client relationships from the Financial & Professional Services portfolio including, but not
limited to, accounting, financial services, insurance, and many professional services.

This position is a part of the Employer Engagement team, reporting to the Director of Employer Engagement &
Operations. The Employer Engagement team at large works in collaboration with our Operations and
student-facing Career Management teams to help educate employers on the best ways to connect with students
and alumni. Other internal and external facing stakeholders throughout the school including faculty, staff
leaders, and student-led organizations are partners in our work.

Essential Duties

Client Management & Business Development (40%):

  • Leverage the strategic vision of the Employer Engagement’s Advisory Model to perform client management practices and create employer access points that create high-value interactions for the client’s goals and needs.
  • Enhance long standing employer relationships through client management, market insight, and data analysis to diversify target student populations and deepen firm engagement within WPC and the greater ASU university
  • Maintain and nurture deeper relationships with key clients of WPC, develop an understanding of the industries within the respective portfolio, and monitor how our students are performing relative to competitor schools
  • Assess client hiring needs to determine how to best prioritize and help recruiters understand the optimal resources and strategies to get engaged with WPC and/or across the ASU community
  • Conduct an annual plan for both in- and out-of-state site visits to build relationships with current and prospective employers
  • Implement targeted feedback mechanisms to inform student programming and identify opportunities for the most relevant client engagement opportunities

Data, Program Design + Reporting (25%):
  • Extensively utilize ASU’s computer-based recruiting management system, Handshake, to monitor and report on employer accounts to track recruiting activity and outcomes
  • Compiling and analyzing data across various databases, spreadsheets, and documents to see client’s outcomes and successes in order to inform client management practices.
  • Work with the Director of Employer Engagement to determine the optimal ways to define client communications at a large scale, industry specific and/or individual level to determine key messages that are relevant, timely, and address the clients’ talent planning and hiring cycles
  • Work in conjunction with the entire team to define annual planning cycles that include business reviews, on-campus recruiting and other forms of engagement with our students; this includes determining, relevant channels, content, and timeline within the strategic planning process
  • Work cross-collaboratively to determine optimal ways to develop sustainable relationships at scale, track outcomes, and measure success, including the production of quarterly and annual reports.
WPC and ASU collaboration (20%):
  • Collaborate with WPC Employer Engagement, ASU Corporate Engagement Network, ASU Career Services, and the team’s student-facing experts to make recommendations to clients on their talent goals and needs
  • Help define how the team can streamline the recruiting experience for WPC/ASU clients including processes improvement and implementation to the employer and student journey
  • Engage in strategic initiatives and/or projects across within W. P. Carey including, but not limited too, admissions, advancement, alumni advising, student engagement, faculty departments, advisory boards, and leadership

Market Informed (15%):
  • Maintain a working knowledge of local and national employment market trends and their actual and potential impact on the hiring of college students and graduates
  • Stay up to date on business news, employment trends, student feedback and considerations relevant to the industries within the portfolio
  • Develop a deep understanding of the degree programs offered at WPC and the best practices in recruiting to effectively advise on ways to engage that align to each employer’s talent needs
  • Represent WPC/CMEE and serve on various department and university committees

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND six (6) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, communications, public relations, and/or related area; evidence of a Master’s degree preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of using listening and critical thinking skills to help solve business problems and make decisions; consulting experience preferred
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and/or external clients; including but not limited to recruiters, students, faculty, and alumni
  • Evidence of effective communication skills including spelling and grammar
  • Ability to define optimal approaches and key messages to reach various audiences
  • Experience in successfully adapting and engaging in a change management environment
  • Experience in working effectively with clients and colleagues to deliver presentations and ideas
  • Experience in managing time and prioritizing projects to meet deadlines
  • Experience with Microsoft office applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and CRM tools

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Requirement to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
  • Regular use of standard office equipment and associated computer/technology peripherals
