Position Summary
The Assistant Director assists the Director for Athletic Communications in all phases of communications related to varsity athletics and serves as the backup sports information liaison.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Primary contact for varsity sports teams: provide communications coverage to include attending home athletic events, traveling with teams during post season play (if applicable), keeping statistics, relaying competition results, and executing communications strategy related to printed and digital materials.
  • Assist with the management the department's official website.
  • Responsible for design, layout and production of athletic department publications as well as development and content of video deliverables.
  • Update WashU Athletics social media accounts with direction from supervisor and Sr. Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations.
  • Assist in training of student staff.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Sports Administration and five years’ experience in collegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and video production.
  • Former student – athlete.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong communication and political acumen skills.
  • Thorough, strong project management skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and public relations skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse community and wide range of constituencies, including the corporate community and institutional marketing personnel.
  • Fluency with both Mac and PC operating systems.
  • Understand the nuances of game day presentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic sports news media needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coaches, administrators, faculty, and students.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sales, communication, sports management or a related field.
  • Two years’ experience in collegiate athletics or comparable work in a sports related field.

Salary Range
$20.76 - $32.21 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
