Assistant Department Head

Job Summary

As one of two Assistant Department Heads, you will lead, direct and manage professional and management staff. You will engage in planning and direction for the administrative operations of the CS department to advance program goals and strategic objectives. This position will ensure proper functioning of unit and develop, adapt, communicate, implement and execute strategic goals, policies and procedures. You will ensure departmental and university policies, procedures and standards are met and maintained. You will also assist with the establishment of goals and priorities for operating budgets.

Founded in 1962, the Department of Computer Science was created to be an innovative base of knowledge in the emerging field of computing as the first degree-awarding program in the United States. The department continues to advance the computer science industry through research. Graduates of the program can solve complex and challenging problems in many fields. What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position
  • Six (6) to seven (7) years of operations or program management and managerial work experience

 

Preferred:

  • Higher Ed experience
  • Advanced degree


Skills Needed:

  • Academic administration, personnel supervisor, and program management
  • Ability to:
    • interpret and implement University policies and procedures
    • influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Excellent communication (oral & written), strategic planning, performance metrics, problem-solving, analytical, organizational, event planning, project management and customer service skills
  • Must be able to:
    • foster a participative supervisor style that utilizes teamwork to successfully guide and work of others
    • multi-talk and meet established deadlines
  • Computer and related software skills (i.e., word processing, creating, and maintaining databases/spreadsheets, PowerPoint, web savvy, etc.)
