THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN CHATTANOOGA, TN. 

The Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) in Chattanooga will provide leadership for the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the school's undergraduate medical education program and will continue the tradition of collaborative scholarship and innovative educational excellence. 

  • primary responsibility for all UME activities on the UTHCS-COM-C campus.
  • comparable educational opportunities across all statewide campuses where possible.
  • compliance with the LCME requirements in coordination with UTHSC-COM-Memphis principals.
  • fostering a supportive culture of educational excellence.
  • preparation of the medical school graduates for clinical practice and medical scholarship (e.g. meet individually for educational portfolio development, career advising and development of electives not available at UTHSC-COM-C).
  • completion of all Medical School Performance Evaluation Letters (Dean’s Letters) and assisting assigned students with ERAS application requirements
  • serving as Course Director for the required M4 Capstone courses
  • interprofessional education and training for all UME students.
  • design, development and ongoing coordination of the Clinical and Scholarly Immersion Experiences for UTHSC-COM M1 (rising M2) students
  • training, development and mentorship of UTHSC-COM-C specialty-specific faculty advisors
  • oversight, development and mentorship of clerkship and course directors at UTHSC-COM-C

Anticipate 50% clinical; 15% GME/UME teaching; 35% Administration; Research will be negotiable based on candidates interests. 

 



Qualifications

 

Basic Qualifications: Candidates are required to hold an M.D. or D.O. degree and be board certified in their respective specialty.

  • Established, longitudinal record as an excellent medical-educator
  • Significant administrative and leadership experience in medical education, curriculum programming and development, as well as knowledge of LCME requirements pertinent to the education of medical students with an emphasis on clinical years
  • Act with honor and integrity in personal and professional actions
  • Experience with unique/innovative methods for teaching
  • Experience in developing a strategic plan for medical education
  • The ability to work with multiple stakeholders and teams
  • A reputation for dynamic and clear communications 
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a commitment to equity
  • Demonstrate an awareness of FERPA, HIPPA, Title IX regulations as well as any UTHSC policies/handbooks related to students and faculty.
