Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Assistant Dean of Student Success, Engagement & Leadership. Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Experience and Learning Assurance, the Assistant Dean of Student Success, Engagement, and Leadership will manage the portfolio of programs for the Office of Student Success, Engagement, and Leadership at Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick. The portfolio encompasses existing mentoring and leadership development programs at both RBS campuses (Newark and New Brunswick), and the Assistant Dean will be responsible for the integration, coordination, and development of related activities across campuses.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Manages mentoring and leadership programs that focus on connecting students to business professionals across industries, fields, and companies who can offer mentoring support
  • Coordinates with various offices to develop, execute, and continuously improve recruitment, training, and supervision of program components and events relevant to the respective programs
  • Oversees, evaluates, and strengthens the program portfolio to ensure the success and satisfaction of participants
  • Assess outcomes through regular evaluation of programs and renew or modify processes accordingly
  • Develops and maintains all records, policies, and procedures for the programs
  • Strengthens the student support, engagement, and leadership portfolio to ensure strong outcomes and widespread opportunities for students to participate
  • Bolsters the partnerships within the programs, the Assistant Dean will work with offices such as the Office of Alumni and Corporate Engagement and the Rutgers Foundation to facilitate the recruitment of mentors from the RBS alumni network and across the Rutgers community
  • Supervises and manages the job functions of full-time professional employees

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a master’s degree in higher education administration or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of student development and academic, student life/activities, or career development function
  • Requires a minimum of three years of experience in an academic, student life/activities, or career development function

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Requires technological literacy
  • Must be self-motivated and detail-oriented with the ability to generate ideas; and manage multiple programs and projects
Preferred Qualifications
  • An understanding of and experience with issues related to working with undergraduate and/or graduate students, women, under-represented minority groups, and knowledge about first-generation student needs.
  • Experience managing major programs and events, preferably in a higher education setting; program management, and student leadership expertise preferred
  • Knowledge of survey tools such as Qualtrics and Google Forms, Rutgers HCM systems, budgets and financial analysis in an academic setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of programming, advising, budget management, and training programs is preferred.
  • Preferred skills in program development and strategic implementation.
Equipment Utilized
  • Requires access and use of a laptop computer and printer provided by the University
  • Use of survey tools such as Qualtrics and Google Forms
  • Manage software and platforms that are used to carry out the functions of the programs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Candidate must be able to lift 50lbs or less.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between campuses, to off-campus events, and businesses in the NY/NJ metro area is required.
  • This position may require evening and weekend hours
