Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
The Assistant Dean for Conservatory Admissions and Community Programs provides leadership and enrollment management for Conservatory of Music (COM) and Pacific’s Community Music School. The incumbent oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive music recruitment strategies that meet or exceed enrollment targets for the COM. The position is responsible for leading music admissions and recruitment activities that sustain enrollment targets in all degrees and applied areas offered that meet or exceed net tuition revenue goals. In concert with the Office of the Dean of the COM, music faculty, and Pacific’s Enrollment Management and Financial Aid offices, the position leads and refines the COM application and review processes and leads the awarding of COM merit scholarships in concert with Pacific’s Financial Aid Office. The position also functions as Director of Pacific’s Community Music School (CMS) and ensures that: CMS offers K-12 music students and Pacific’s community an inclusive array of music lessons, ensembles, and classes; connects pre-collegiate music students to Pacific as a school of choice; appoints CMS instructors in ways consistent with Pacific procedures and state and federal requirements; and works with the COM Budget Manager to ensure that annual revenues exceed expenses.
The Assistant Dean for COM Admissions and Community Programs reports to the Dean of the COM and works collaboratively with all constituencies.
Essential Functions
  • Lead the development, implementation, and management of recruitment strategies to meet enrollment needs of the COM, including student search, prospect management, and yield efforts that attract inclusive and highly meritorious cohorts of undergraduates and graduates.
  • Develop and manage the delivery of admission related promotional material and manage the admission and CMS related content on the COM website and related materials.
  • Collaborate with COM and university colleagues in Admissions, Offices of International Students, and Financial Aid to develop a data driven approach to admissions, recruitment, and enrollment management.
  • Create and maintain precise real-time data and reporting tools in ever-evolving admissions CRM environments.
  • Develop, prepare, analyze, and distribute reports reflecting admission activity trends and forecasts.
  • Evaluate and participate in the selection of candidates for admission and the strategic awarding of scholarships.
  • Travel nationally and internationally in support of Pacific’s mission and recruitment strategy.
  • Represent Pacific’s COM at regional, national, and international venues to school counselors, teachers, prospective students, parents, alumni, and professional organizations.
  • Oversee the Admissions and Recruitment Travel budgets, and all budgets associated with the CMS.
  • Supervise all employees engaged in work through the CMS.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Eight (8) years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in music, and a thorough knowledge of, or a background in, music or the performing arts.
  • An unflagging commitment to inclusion as a foundational strength in educational and musical settings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • National recognition in the fields of arts admissions, and a broad understanding of issues and best practice in higher education recruiting and admissions, particularly as they relate to music, and/or the performing arts.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to balance annual and longitudinal recruitment and yield targets with net tuition revenue targets.
  • Strong understanding of current and emerging marketing and communications tools appropriate to prospective undergraduate and graduate students and parents.
  • Conversant in social media platforms applicable to student recruitment.
  • Proven creative, strategic, and innovative approach to recruitment.
  • Strong knowledge and comfort with technology and the data tools required for associated metrics, such as applicant management systems/CRM, data integration.
  • Results oriented professional with demonstrated ability to represent and emulate Pacific values in every setting and with each constituent.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and culture.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work performed during standard business hours. May require additional time outside of standard business hours.
Valid driver’s license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $71,596.39 - $98,456.30 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
