Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is hiring for a Catering Prep Assistant Coordinator.
This individual will assist in producing & expediting cold food preparation tasks to support Events & Catering. 


Position Responsibilities

  • Assist Catering Chef in food preparation for events, dining & catering services.
  • Stand in for Catering Chef during absence.
  • Contribute to developing catering menus and maintaining recipe database. 
  • Contribute to insuring that menus, recipes and procedures are followed by catering preparation staff 
  • Train and supervise full, part time and seasonal catering prep employees.
  • Insure cold preparation staff follows proper sanitation procedures.
  • Interact in a courteous manner with clientele, fellow employees and other supervisors.
  • Provides support to the Chef Catering services including:
  • Purchasing of produce & baked goods
  • Job performance feedback
  • Ensuring that the administrative and operational policies and procedures of the department and the Laboratory are followed.
  • Perform and insure secure close up of work area / facility at the end of a shift / work day


Position Requirements

EDUCATION: (Degree requirements)

  • High School diploma, or equivalent.
  • Sanitation Certificate
EXPERIENCE: (Amount of experience required to perform responsibilities)
  • Five years’ experience in restaurant and/or hotel management.
SKILLS: (Indicate required or desirable)
  • Ability to speak and understand the Spanish language is helpful.  
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Work scheduling.
  • Vendors and sources of supply.
  • Cold food preparation and serving.
  • Proper sanitation procedures.
  • Organization skills.
  • Diplomacy and tact.
  • Social etiquette.
  • Telephone etiquette.
  • Computer literate.
  • Operation of a departmental computer database.
  • Familiarity with the facilities on the Laboratory grounds.

The hourly rate for this role is $22.77-31.96.   The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
