Departmental Objective
To provide excellent food and services to residential students, faculty and staff.
Purpose of the Position
Under the direction of the Food Service Manager and First Cook, this position prepares and produces assigned menu items by reading and comprehending recipes. It also assigns and monitors jobs of subordinate personnel. Additionally, this position will perform other duties as assigned to include but not limited to serving and cleaning.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position
  • Ability to read and write
  • Demonstrated basic math skills
  • Knowledge of all types of cooking methods by reading and converting recipes
  • Knowledge of all kitchen equipment
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks concurrently
  • Ability to communicate in writing or verbally to both supervisors and subordinates
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to work in congested work areas and areas where wet processes are used
  • Ability to wear protective footwear
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
  • Experience working in a high volume kitchen. 
  • Previous experience with high volume feeding.
Additional Consideration(s)
Education:
  • ServSafe certified. 
  • Some culinary arts school coursework or equivalent practical experience.

Experience: 
  • Supervisory experience working in a high volume production kitchen.
  • Previous experience at a college or university.
Salary Information Starting at $30,146, commensurate with education and experience

This is a classified position. New and returning classified employees are required to complete a 12-month probationary period;
