Job Summary

Under the supervision Principal Investigator (PI) Winston Chiong MD/PhD, the Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator (Asst. CRC) will perform entry-level duties related to the support and coordination of a research study evaluating the ethics of novel neurotechnology.

Under direct supervision, the Asst. CRC will be responsible for: assisting/helping with the recruiting of research participants; applying understanding of inclusion/exclusion eligibility criteria for protocols; assisting in the scheduling and coordinating study participant visits; managing audio data files and coordinating transcription services; completing study forms to submit to sponsors and/or appropriate agencies; collecting, entering, and cleaning data into study databases; maintaining data quality; assisting with data analysis; assisting with preparation of reports and tables; attending team meetings; and performing other duties as assigned.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is a clinical research unit within the UCSF Department of Neurology that investigates the clinical (neurological, cognitive, behavioral, neuroanatomic) characteristics of various neurodegenerative diseases. The Primary Investigator’s (PI) research within the MAC focuses on the decision-making processes in patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Alzheimer's Disease (AD), primary progressive aphasia (PPA), and other neurodegenerative disorders.


Required Qualifications

  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities or equivalent combination of experience/training
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills; excellent organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Windows.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment; project management and coordination skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines on concurrent projects.
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, & physicians.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior coursework in neuroscience and/or bioethics.
  • Prior knowledge or experience with qualitative methods.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with medical terminology.
  • Comfort in working with patients with neurological disease.
  • Ability to abstract data from medical records and transfer it to data collection forms or directly into databases.
  • Proven ability to work independently and keen attention to detail.
