ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

USF's Office of Administrative Services (OAS) is made up of the dedicated people who keep our campus, the equivalent of a medium-sized city, moving forward. This team delivers essential services across USF's multiple campuses and locations that together total 11 sites, 1,646 acres, 350 buildings, and 12.8 million gross square feet. With responsibilities that include land use and planning, construction and development, maintenance and utilities, custodial and grounds services, parking and the Bull Runner bus system, environmental health and safety, university police, and emergency management; the OAS team has a wide-reaching impact that touches nearly every aspect of the University of South Florida community in support of the university's mission and strategic plan.
On USF's Tampa campus, the OAS team performs a broad scope of services that includes processing and completing over 45,000 work orders annually, providing custodial and maintenance services for 83 buildings totaling 4.5 million square feet, managing over 350 construction and renovation projects each year, providing utilities services for 350 buildings totaling 12.8 million square feet, maintaining 20,500 parking spaces across 93 surface lots and 4 garages, operation and maintenance of a fleet of 26 buses, and performing grounds care of 500 acres of space.

The USF Building Code Program is to administer Building/Life Safety Code Compliance for the University of South Florida (USF). The regulated practice of building/life safety code compliance is necessary, in the interest of public health and safety, and will be accomplished through ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards. The Program will be administered by the Building Code Administrator, through document reviews, permitting, and construction inspections.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented professional to join our team as an Assistant Building Code Administrator. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. This position will work closely with the Building Code Administrator to facilitate the permitting process, conduct inspections, and assist in the enforcement of building codes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Permitting Process:
a. Collaborates in reviewing and processing building permit applications.
b. Provide guidance to applicants on necessary documentation and requirements.
c. Ensure accuracy and completeness of permit applications.
Inspections:
a. Conduct inspections to verify compliance with building codes and approved plans.
b. Document inspection findings and communicate results to relevant parties.
c. Collaborate with inspectors and contractors to address and resolve issues.
Code Enforcement:
a. Collaborates in enforcing building codes and regulations.
b. Investigate and respond to complaints related to building code violations.
c. Work with University Stake holders and contractors to achieve compliance.
Documentation and Record keeping:
a. Maintain accurate records of permits, inspections, and enforcement actions.
b. Prepare reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
c. Organize and archive documents in accordance with departmental procedures.
Customer Service:
a. Interact with the public, contractors, and other stakeholders to provide information and assistance.
b. Respond to inquiries related to building codes, permits, and inspections.
c. Foster positive relationships with the community and industry professionals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Meeting the requirements of the Florida Statutes 468.609 (3): 10 years construction related experience and 5 years of supervisory experience. To become licensed as a BCA per the BCAIB board rules. Passing exams related to the BCA certification from ICC and Florida Laws and Rules. Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field.  
PREFERRED:

Previous experience in building code administration, construction, or a related field is preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Experience in construction trades and able to be licensed as inspector, BCA. Ability to communicate with construction trades on the code requirements for each trade.
